I originally bought one so I could brew bigger volumes too. I first heard of them when a previous forumite said he was doing some work in a clients home and noticed the client was a homebrewer too. Apparently the client would make three kits up on one of them. I liked the idea so bought one. I never used it for bigger volumes though, I just store grain in it. You can just about get a 25kg sack in there
Indeed, and at great risk to your fingers, as you have to sort of ease it in. It's like putting a rigid condom on a floppy mass, instead of vice versa.
Dependant on how much you've necked down, of course.

I've never quite thought about it in those terms :tinhat:
It's a bit easier for me as I just drop the zip locked bags full of grain in their

In conclusion I will use the hops and grain! I have some fresh stuff bought for xmas so it will be in a couple of brews time but I will report back.

So time for an update. I didnt use the grain in the end because it smelled stale and didn't want to risk the brew.

But when I opened the vacuum sealed hops they smelled great.. So I did a brew with them and... It was great! Some friends tried it and were a bit taken back by how nice of a brew it was.

So old hops (vacuum sealed) = fine to use.

Splendid news. I've got older hops than that which I tend to use in my historical recipes. But well kept hops will last for ages even if the alpha acid content declines.
