OK everything has been added along with 4 litres of apple juice to make it drinkable!

If the ABV was 7.6% when it was 23 litres, what would the ABV be now that I have added 4 more litres of juice?

heres mine 4 ltrs sainsbury basic apple juice, 3 brabley apples juiced with skin on and core , 1 sacet of champagne yeast

look at all that champagne yeast at the bottom 5 days and its stoped bubbling
how can I reuse that yeast its so much

just started my 1st TC 4.5ltr aldi apple juice, tsp yeast nutrient, and tsp of wine yeast (only yeast ive got will it make a big difference?) OG 1048 lets see how it turns out

This is proving a bit more difficult than I thought!

I just can't seem to stop the Young's cider yeast from fermenting.

So far I have added a double dose of Potassium Sorbate and a single dose of camden tablets, put it all in the garage where it is very cold and the yeast just keeps going!

Today I have syphoned it off the yeast, added even more potassium sorbate, given it a good stir and returned to the garage, fingers crossed that it will stop fermenting and start clearing

You do realise that if you stop it with campdens and sorbate you won't be able to prime and will have to drink it flat?

It could be better to allow it to ferment out and then sweeten with Splenda.

Hi Moley - It is going in a corny so priming is not an issue - I just need it to be clear and flat!

In which case let it ferment out, then add campdens and sorbate.
You can then add more apple juice to sweeten it :thumb:

noob questions on TC: if I let TC ferment until SG stops dropping, can I then bottle with priming sugar to carbonate? If I did this I asume that the brew would be very dry and would need sweetening b4 consumtion? and last but not least is there anything to be added to the brew other than the juice, yeast and sugar to bring up the starting SG?
Nearly forgot is wine yeast ok to use?

No :thumb:

As a last resort if you've got nothing better :wha:

I've only ever tried a couple of small batches, using my GP wine yeast. I wasn't particularly impressed.

Cheers Moley :thumb: , need to pop round my Uncle's house now and pick up a DJ, and grab some cider yeast from the brew shop. :D

My 1st turbo cider is now in progress  , 4.5L of Lidl 100% apple juice, 200g of sugar and Youngs cider yeast, starting SG 1062. Lidl juice was 74p for 1.5L carton so I bought 8, if it's good we can have another go!

I don't understand the need to add sugar to the apple juice :wha:
The apple juice on it's own will give an abv of around 6%, adding sugar will of course increase the abv but at the expense of taste and hangovers

I might have made a mistake then  , I misread an earlier post and got caught up in the excitement of another brew, oh well, got enough juice to do another batch if it turns out undrinkable, this time with no sugar!

Just checked my Turbo's SG, down to 1000 in 4 days, god this stuff works fast. Its been in the DJ for 4 days now, fermentation started about 12 hrs in to the brew, bubbles have gone from 1 every second to about 1 every 11 seconds using my head counter. I'll check it again tommorow and if its the same I'll be bottling it on Monday evening. I was going to put a heaped teaspoon of sugar in each bottle to try and get a nice fizz going, does this sound about right?
