The true £ cost of home brewing

I live in Egypt, so many of the problems encountered by UK home brewers are turned on their head here. We can only really get four types of beer here, all pretty poor examples of lagers: local versions of Stella and Heiniken, as well as Sakara and Luxor. After living here for nearly ten years...

    Conditioning question

I'm conditioning a batch of St Peters Ruby Red at the moment, I bottled on the 17th. Problem I have is that its pretty warm in my home, generally I have the air conditioning set at 26DegC. I guess that this would make it carbonate more quickly, but are there any drawbacks regarding off-flavours...

    Second brew, stout additions?

I've just bottled my first brew, a StPeters Ruby Red. It had 17 days in the FV and went from 1043 to 1012. Bottling went well with 1/2 tsp of sugar in each bottle, going to leave for a week in the warm (around 24-26 in my home) then a couple of weeks in the fridge before tasting. Can't wait! I'm...

    Oxygenating wort?

I work with oxygen a lot, and as I'm very new to the brewing game I've latched onto the generally accepted idea of trying to incorporate 02 into the wort prior to pitching the yeast. Would it be worth bubbling through some 02 to give it a headstart? With a well fitting lid saturation levels...

    Another first brew question!

Great, just the answer I was hoping for! Will leave it at 18DegC then for a few more days, then drop it down for another few days to clear. Cheers!

    Another first brew question!

So I've bitten the bullet and set up a brewfridge with an STC1000, and am seven days into my first brew of St Peters Ruby Red Ale. No problems as far as I can tell, I've had it running at 18DegC after pitching at 24DegC. OG was 1040 and is currently at 1018. I'm now planning to reduce the temp...

    Hello from the desert!

Cheers guys, I was hoping to have an easy first go to see if it was worthwhile! Reckon I might have to wait a while until the air temp drops a fair bit more and then rely on the aircon... If it works out ok, I will look to source a fridge before the summer. Diving over here is very, very good-...

    Hello from the desert!

Hi all! A quick introduction: I'm a beer lover living in the Egyptian desert since 2005. Originally from London (via all over the place), I moved to the Sinai to spend as much time underwater, and away from the rat-race, as possible! Whilst being an exceptional place for diving, it's a total...
