    How clean is clean?

I use VWP, and pleased with how it works. As previously stated a cleaner and sanitiser. I have fallen fowl of it though and had an infection (TCP smell) which was down to not rinsing enough.... That said I still use it, good stuff in my opinion. I've learnt that good cleaning, sterilising...

    Keg cleaning

My last brew in the king keg unfortunately had the dreaded TCP smell.... So learnt the lesson that I didn't rinse the VWP out enough. My question is how to get a good scrub/clean on the keg before sterilising to get the old beer smell out? I also still have that faint TCP smell so I want to...

The true £ cost of home brewing

Im not really worried about what it costs, its a hobby and I enjoy making it... tasting a nice beer that you made, and trying to improve it.

    Fridge Question.

I have my temperature controlled fridge working nicely, many thanks to this forum for the help and guidance!!! it's a nice set up with the STC1000. I now need to get the heating source in before winter so its fully controlled (yes things take me that long!)... I would like to know what heaters...

Bulldog Four finger Jack American Pale ale.

Brewed this and drunk it... It was an easy between extract brewing. Brewed nice in a single FV, transferred to a keg after 7 days. Started drinking at 4 weeks but it was too early. After six weeks, really clear, nice light ale with a definitive aroma. Bit too strong for me at around 6.2. If you...

get brew off the trub or leave for 2 - 3 weeks?

Sorry see what you mean... It's a 5 gal (plastic) demijohn with screw cap and airlock. As I say works well for me... from this I bottle for lager, and keg for ale.

get brew off the trub or leave for 2 - 3 weeks?

I always aim at the 19 or 23l batch... Larger I'm not realy set up for. I've only just done my first AG after extract. I bit extra effort on the 2nd FV but I find I get nice clear beers/lagers. Cheers D

get brew off the trub or leave for 2 - 3 weeks?

I always do 2 FVs, near the end of the first FV I transfer to a demijohn with an airlock... the beer clears nicely.

    Yeast question

Could be me, because first AG and still learning.... but it was about 4 months out out of use by date. Took it out of the fridge, left it for the day whilst I was mashing and boiling, smacked it 3 hrs before, and it swelled ok so pitched. Now I expected a slow start (because out of date) but by...

    Yeast question

I have techy question and wondered what happens to yeast that doesn’t start and you pitch a second? What process goes on and does it all drop out in the sediment in the end? I pitched a wyest that didn't start so then added an S-04. Originally the wyeast was to get the results of the beer I...

Please recommend a yeast for Pilsner

I used a Wyeast Danish (can't remember the number), FV was at a constant 15... Then did the lager process... Come out good, v pleased. i have a bohemian in the fridge for the next. For lager a temprature controlled fridge is the way to go to control the temp. Cheers D

    Fermentation not kicked in

Yes done that, had to pitch the S-04 in the end but it has started now. Unfortunately when I stirred the wort for the yeast I've disturbed the clumps, which exposed my second error i.e. slightly to much protofloc... Still smells good, and tastes ok so currently hanging in. Quite funny really in...

    Fermentation not kicked in

I pitched a wyeast that was a couple months out of date and the fermentation looks as though it hasn't started. Coming up to 24hrs now so how long before I need to pitch another, I have an S-04 as a back up. Its my first AG and its all gone well and smells wonderful so don't want to loose...

    extract brewing.

I was advised to do extract before all grain, and learn n try a few more things before mashing... Worked a treat and is good advice. Also the beer quality is a step up from kits (in my view) D

    Fridge question...

I haven't got round to buying the fridge yet and just started looking again... Allot of them say don't use in outbuildings or unheated areas, or they say a temp range 10C to 30 etc.... I presume that may be a problem for normal food use, but I'm going to use it modified with the temprature...

    Simple lagering

Good question, I wouldn't mind knowing that as well?... Doing a fridge conversion at the moment. D

    please help, extract advice.

I've had some really nice brews from extract. My latest was a fresh batch of LME syrup, saaz, lager flavapack from brupaks and a mauribrew 497 yeast... Tastes similar to muntons continental pilsner, only better (think I'm allowed to say that?) Rgds D

    Lagering fridge

I'm planning on getting a fridge and modifying it with a digital temperature controller for lager brewing and the lagering process. I have done some searches and got the general idea and types of controllers people use, I'm even considering adding the heater as well. Question for those that...
