I did an extract brew recently using LME, Saaz, a lager flavapack with mauribrew 497... I fermented at 20C, bottled it and left for about 6 weeks in the garage. Its has turned out a nice beer, a well bodied lager, I really like it. My question is can I do this AG with MO extra pale malt (2.5) with a Wyeast 2278 Czech Pils or 2007 Pils Lager? also rather than use a favapack what other malted grains would you use to get the pilsner/european flavours?

I haven't got as far as a lagering fridge yet, and really need to ferment around 19/20 or garage temp... so was after trying to get near a lager as possible using the conventional methods.

Cheers

Thanks, I notice if I use Bohemian Lager 2124 yeast it can ferment at 18-20. What caramel malts would you add? If any... or just stick to some pilsner?

Gosh, there are many posts out there in the different combinations but 5-10 % of any of pilsener/Vienna/caraplis malt to go withe extra pale would give something nice for your first go at it. While you will get lots of help and suggestions from this forum, you could end up with more questions than answers and sometimes you just need to get brewing to find out what works for you.

Yup good point, I wandered off the original theme of trying an AG method.

I would use pilsner malt as your base malt , then if you want add around 500g of vienna malt . That's it less is more when doing pilsner/lager.
