    Sediment

Nice one, my despair level has decreased ! I'm actually just reading the dry yeast thread you recently started. I used S-05 as guided by a book i was using for my first brew, think i might try a different one next time.

    Sediment

Cheers Clint, would you say it will improve if left a bit longer ? I normally leave a minimum of 2 weeks

    Sediment

Hi all, Recently bottled my 2nd brew and i've had a look at a bottle after 11 days and there appears to be a sediment issue and things floating... First brew was fine, even though not the most clear brew you will see. No dry hopping was involved on this one. This second one i cold crashed...

Beginners Guide to Water Treatment (plus links to more advanced water treatment in post #1)

Brilliant Calculator ! As you said for my target chloride and sulphate levels it shows the sulphate would be high enough already so just need to add some calcium chloride. Really appreciate your help and knowledge, thanks.

Yes using CRS. So i'll just add Gypsum and Calcium Chloride at the rates in your guide to get the PPM i want for Chloride & Sulphate levels.

Ok great. Are they about normal levels for chloride and sulphate ? I was thinking that i just need to add some calcium chloride to improve the ratio over sulphate.

Thanks got the report and attached it. Is it the 'mean value' i should be reading ? So chloride 26 and sulphate 33.1 ?

Beginners Guide to Water Treatment (plus links to more advanced water treatment in post #1)

Afternoon, I followed your original guide which is excellent thanks ! I got the salifert kits for alkalinity and calcium. My alkalinity was 205 ppm and the calcium was 130. i adjusted accordingly at the weekend for a session pale ale recipe i was doing and all is good. I'm going to attempt...

    Recipe Building...

Yes your right the important figures don't change so i will ignore the Boil section and pretend its not there ! This is my second brew and I'm fairly confident things have gone to plan.. Thanks for your help.

    Recipe Building...

I was ignoring those numbers under Quick Water requirements because i really dont know where they came from at all ! I get your point on the DME. As i say my boil was around 12 litres and once cooled i topped it up to 20 litres in my FV. I'm just unsure on what figures to enter on the Boil...

    Recipe Building...

Hi I've just done a partial mash brew and thought I would try and build the recipe in to Brewers Friend and even though I know what I've physically done it seems to be a bit more confusing completing the info on BF. I did a partial mash recipe with 2kg of grain, which was in 6 litres of water...

    Extract Kits

Excellent, a couple more weeks then. Just did my second brew yesterday, progressed to partial mash and different hops at various times, hoping it will be another level on the taste side. Cheers

    Extract Kits

After reading an American pale ale O2 should be 2.2 to 2.9 I used a priming calculator - image attached, using dextrose

    Extract Kits

Hi I just opened a bottle of my first home brew - one week after bottling and it tastes good but the gas level was quite low after the initial head disappeared. I know you really should wait for around 2 weeks. Can I ask with time is the gas level likely to improve or have i underdone the...

    Rye Malt

Cheers all for the advice. I think I'm going to give partial mash a go with a little bit of rye malt thrown in and see how it goes.

    Rye Malt

Hi I've just bottled my first extract American IPA and was now reading up on my next effort and thinking of steeping with speciality grains and in particular i wanted Rye in there. I found the below recipe where Rye is included in the steeping grains but I have also read that Rye should not be...

    Extract Kits

Yes the cascade was a one hour boil. It’s still bubbling along so fingers crossed it will be ok ! Out of interest is there any rule to the ratio of wort from boil and how much water you add afterwards to get the final amount in the fermenting bucket ?
  19. BrucetheFish

    Extract Kits

Thanks, so I was thinking that my wort from my boil would be less diluted. Will my final beer be stronger because of this ?

    Extract Kits

I read a book called Brew a Batch - Beginners guide to home brewed beer by an aussie fella. Quite a good book. He had two beginners extract recipes for Pale Ale and a Brown Ale. so i tried the Pale Ale which was 3kg LME and 45g cascade hops. It was based on using a 16l stock pot and filling...
