    Stout Chap?

As I have been enjoying a Tom Caxton kit from Wilkinson's, I was thinking of trying one of the Stout kits sold there. Anyone tried one? How did it come out? So far tried Young's bitter kit. Not too good. Tom Caxton, excellent. :D

    Something Missing?

I know not the difference, just following recommendations. Anyway the excuse for some Adnam's Broadside was welcome. :D

    Something Missing?

Something was missing, ah, I know, running low on homebrew. So started on my second batch. Tom Caxton kit. Since first one (well, 1st for 40yrs) I have learnt that dark bottles are better than clear ones apparently? So I have unselfishly quaffed a few pints of Adnam's Broadside, only for the...

    Strength ?

A question from a novice. How do I tell what strength my home brew is please? :wha: I know I could drink it till I fall over as a rough guide, :drink: but would probably forget how many bottles I have drunk and SWMBO being tidy would have binned them before I recovered. :drunk:

Thanks for the replies, i am now less ignorant than I was! And not in fear of exploding beer bottles. :drink:

    Ignoramous Asks Question

Whilst enjoying quaffing some of the home-brew made from a kit, a question has come to mind. Ultra basic no doubt, but I don't know the answer! :wha: The instructions said to put half teaspoon full of sugar into each bottle before capping. Now on drinking there is some sediment at the bottom...

    Second Bottle Better

Having made my 1st batch of home brew for 40yrs, the 1st bottle was disappointing. Twangy and not too tasty. Following advice here I have left it another 3 weeks. Second bottle was excellent, so now to start drinking batch one, :drink: Youngs Beer Buddie, and start making batch two, Tom Caxton...

Thanks for the advice graysalchemy, I will leave the beer for another couple of weeks. Also check out use by date on future kits.. I have seen the enhancer in Wilcos so will give it a go.

    First Taster

Well I have had my 1st taster of the Youngs Brew Buddy Kit. :drink: Seems to have a slight twang to it, but still drinkable. Not as good as I would like, but no doubt down to my inexperience. Got a Tom Caxton kit to try next.

    First for 40yrs!

Got it bottled today! Taste buds are at the ready  but have a wait. Only place I can find with home brew kit around here is Wilkos. They don't seem to sell Nelson's Revenge, so might try John Bull bitter next? :hmm:

    First for 40yrs!

Home brew then was same as beer of the time. If you ever had the misfortune to taste Watney Red Barrel you will know what I mean. :D

    First for 40yrs!

Thanks for advice. 40yr back you got plastic caps for the bottles, none of this professional looking metal caps and a £10 gadget to fit them! Frankly the taste then was not good! "Nelson's Revenge" sounds good. But I am an ex squaddie, not jolly Jack Tar!

    First for 40yrs!

I last tried making home-brew 40yrs ago. Just brewed up a Youngs Brew Buddy kit, if it comes out reasonable will try for something better.
