Brewferm Framboos - Beginner - tips appreciated

I understand what you mean, but i've been sorted with the bottles - cut my hands delving around the bins at the back (and boy there were a lot of them!). Got about 40 Kopparberg bottles and 30 Magners bottles. Removed the labels with relative ease, cleaned and put in the shed with a towel over...

Brewferm Framboos - Beginner - tips appreciated

Update on the Bottles.... JD Wetherspoons have said 'not company policy' to allow people to take bottles :nono: Harvester pub - seems ok but they don't sell much cider so will be hardly any bottles Seems my local independent pub are happy for me to root around the bins at the back - 'take...

Brewferm Framboos - Beginner - tips appreciated

Found the instructions under the lid in a million languages.. sorry i was having a lazy moment :hmm: Looks relatively simple, surprised at the low amount of sugar thats needed. I've got a Wetherspoons near me as well, just phoned them and they seem happy for me to take some Magners bottles...

Brewferm Framboos - Beginner - tips appreciated

Good idea on the 2 litre jug Mr BR. I did just see a post somewhere on someone using a barrel but as cool as that seems i guess it'd be a rather expensive tool for someone like me. As for the Pubs, i've tried that already and certainly the Crown pubs won't let anyone have bottles as the 'get...

Brewferm Framboos - Beginner - tips appreciated

Thanks Mr BR, looks quite straightforward, in fact maybe easier than all the faffing i were doing before. Good idea about the PET bottles, though i think i'd rather bottle in individual bottles than a larger 2 litre one. I doubt it'd make a difference to the overall taste but its the image in...

Brewferm Framboos - Beginner - tips appreciated

I realise that i may be posting somewhat random questions on these forums - i apologise, i'm trying to find my feet, please bear with me. After a few homemade cider and beer recipes (maybe tramp juice) i had chance to purchase a beer kit from a homebrew shop. I purchased Brewferm Framboos. It's...

What are the differences between yeasts? Stupid Alert!

Wow, that's just complicated it a whole lot more for me now but thanks for that. I suppose it makes sense. So i guess that when making my cider i would get a much better result by using cider yeast would i? And ginger beer would be better with an ale yeast?

What are the differences between yeasts? Stupid Alert!

I admit i'm probably being stupid here, but i currently use wine yeast to make my cider. What are the actual differences between the different yeast? After all they all do the same thing in the end don't they? As a logical guess, do they add to or enhance flavours? It would certainly help me...

Cider is 'winey' and not very 'appley'

Thanks Graysalchemy, i can understand your passion and how my post would have possibly riled you - but it wasn't intended, i'm a beginner. I've read about good results using Lidl apple juice hence why i chose to have a go. I understand your point about quality expectations - i can assure you i...

Cider is 'winey' and not very 'appley'

Thanks for your input.. i'm sorry to have seemed abrupt earlier, the main reason for my home brewing is a) to save money b) to make something proud enough to share with friends.. and it seems from the 'tramp juice' statement that i've just made *****.. however reading the above quote was...

Cider is 'winey' and not very 'appley'

Oh well thanks for encouraging me not to bother wasting my time... i'll finish off this 20 or so litre batch and then i think i'll go back to buying it... I thought i might be doing something right (i was actually enjoying it as well lol) , but this is obviously not for me

Cider is 'winey' and not very 'appley'

Well you're not wrong there - i was p*****d on a pint :) Im finding that adding a quarter of apple juice to 3/4 pint of the 'cider' helps make it taste a little less winey :) hiccup

    additional flavors in cider

Did you still get enough of the taste after the fermentation had completed? I seem to find that that yeast eats tastes as well as sugar!

Cider is 'winey' and not very 'appley'

Hi, My recipe was: Lidl Apple Juice (50% from concentrate), Tesco Clear Honey, boiled (1 jar to a gallon), a little pectolase (though i added this halfway through fermentation) The yeast was Youngs Super Wine Yeast compound. How long? it fermented out about 3 days ago, i bottled it and i'm...

Cider is 'winey' and not very 'appley'

Just trying my cider that i bottled a few days ago and it's not as 'apple' tasting as the stuff you buy in shops? Is this a simple fix? I'm wondering if i made a mistake letting it ferment right out to the end? Although theres a (slight) apple taste, it's mainly quite winey, like a semi dry...

    additional flavors in cider

Can i ask if you boiled the teabags before adding to the fermentation bucket, or do you just chuck em in?

My first 20litre cider with cinnamon, honey & star anise

Well i hope this works or it'll have been an expensive disaster! After bottling a trial using just burnt honey, pear slices & apple juice and finding that it tasted rather 'winey', i've endeavoured to improve the recipe a bit.. So this is what i've done - most of the recipe main stuff is from...

How do i adjust the Gravity level?

Oh cool, the FG was 1.000 .. i didn't waste the 'test liquid' though.. i drank it lol. Tastewise it seemed more like wine than cider which surprised me a bit. It was dry to me, but not unpleasantly so. I want to dangle a vanilla pod in it and sweeten it a little with splenda. I've read that the...
