Cider is 'winey' and not very 'appley'

What yeast did you use, are you carbonating? I just put a splash of apple juice in mine when I drink it.

My first 20litre cider with cinnamon, honey & star anise

Should be quite potent then, might experiment with spices in a demijohn first before doing 25l of it. Spiced cider sounds nice though.

How long can you use 5L PET Bottles?

The OP sounds like he was getting the "you need to buy one of our FVs" sales chat lol. Why are they hard to clean, the ribbed type ones will be hard the thicket smooth bodied ones should be ok.

I'm being stupid but please help

I bought some of the tubular type airlocks as they are apparently quieter, not 100% on how these work and how much water to put in them etc, anyone explain or have any photos/guide.

How long can you use 5L PET Bottles?

Does anyone use water cooler bottles as FVs? Seen used ones on eBay for pennies before now. Is the mouth too big for standard bungs? How do you stop it up?

    Turbo Cider Question

Rack it, it may throw another sidement then bottle primed and should still carbonate. If you can be arsed that is. I usually just let it clear a bit in my 27l FV then bottle as I don't have another large FV to rack into.

    Finlandia cider fermentation

Ive done two batches with youngs cider yeast, this last batch I've started I've used youngs wine yeast as a test, it's started fermenting but it's taking a lot longer than the cider yeast to get going. Just need to have patience.

    Finlandia cider fermentation

Just give it time. Bottle at 1.000, if you're priming for carbonation will end up at .998/996 anyway.

I'm now the proud owner of...

When I got my last lot from sainsburys the checkout woman was asking me about it and I ended up having to write out a turbo cider recipe as she was that interested lol. On my second batch drinking and third is brewing, it's not bad, very drinkable, and 8% gets you hammered if you drink a lot.

First go at a WOW help please

Followed the instructions on here, how long before signs of fermentation? Been couple of hours? Nothing, 23c when yeast, nutrient and pectolase was added.

First batch of TC - results

I like fizzy cider, I primed with sugar and syphoned into bottles, I had a few ceramic flip top 500ml pressure bottles but these are expensive so the rest goes into 1l glass pressure bottles I had previously and 2l plastic bottles.

    TC apple juice offers

I'd recommend Costco if you have one near you and have a garage to store stuff, my parents get all Canned stuff, meat to freeze, toilet roll washing powder juice etc and store in garage, we use to be members but don't have enough space to make it worth it.

    japanese knotweed wine?

Actually just checked should be ok to make wine from it it's only not edible as a survival food raw as it's got irritating hairs inside.

    japanese knotweed wine?

I don't think Himalayan balsam stems etc are edible, just the flowers, pods and seeds, just to clarify.
