    I've taken the plunge!

Vossy, I have failed you  If I tell you my other hobby is photography that would make the sin even worse so lets pretend I didn't say that  TBH I didn't think anyone would be interested in a photo of two ssr's bolted onto a heatsink and a pile of components....or would they :wha:

    Bristol AG Brewers (or nearish!)

I'm just starting my first shiney AG build after mucking around with plastic buckets and boilers for a few years. No experience at all but I'm giving it a go.

    I've taken the plunge!

The PID's and relays are here from Auber so build commenced today. First job to was mark out, drill and tap M4 holes and fit the two relays to the heatsink which is now completed. All the components are now sourced although I'm still waiting delivery on a digital temperature read out and some...

    Hop Storage

Does anyone know how long freshly vacuum packed hops will stay fresh for if left unopened?

That's p*ss poor from SWW. I enquired by email to Bristol water this week and had a full analysis emailed me in 24 hrs. SWW have to publish this data by law surely :hmm:

    Flow Rates for Solar Pumps

I've just purchased the 14watt version that's supposed to pump 11 litres per minute and have a 5 metre head. I should get the chance to test it the weekend provided my power supply arrives in time.

    Simon's Brewery Build

Thanks PJ, Interesting idea about a probe in the outflow of the MT as well as inlet :hmm: I'm probably going to use the XLR connectors for the probes as they are compact and pretty rugged from what I've seen.

    Simon's Brewery Build

Cheers Simon, I'll check out the connectors or failing that go for the XLR audio type. Steve

    Simon's Brewery Build

Simon, That's exactly what I had planned without the selector relays as I don't need them. I think I'll use a 1 amp fuse to protect the pid's themselves as well as a 13 amp after the dpst rocker switch. I'll need to bus as well but the basic circuit will be as per the Auber link you have...

    I've taken the plunge!

Thanks PJ, I take your point about accuracy and can see the logic in your reply. I've ordered 2 pid's sensors plus 3 PT100 probes so I think I'll go down the route of a separate heat exchanger and fit one to the HLT and the other to the HE. As I've got a pt100 probe spare and I've bought a...

    Simon's Brewery Build

Hi PJ, I'm planning to connect the input L1 to the heater then to 240v side ot the SSR and L2 via a fuse to the other side of the SSR switch. Using 20 gauge witre I'll take a a feed from L1 and L2 (after the fuse) to the trigger inputs 1 & 2 on the pid. Outputs 6 & 7 then go to the other side...

    Simon's Brewery Build

Hi Simon, I'm going to base my control box build around yours but without the circuitry for switching the mains over between the two outputs. I will be using a ring main and can power each heater element from a separate 240v supply. I'm also going to add a 12v 1A power supply and a pot to...

    I've taken the plunge!

Hi Simon, I can understand that issue but if the MT and HLT are well lagged is it that big an issue? Has anyone any experience of thjs on the forum?

    I've taken the plunge!

Hi All, After reading many posts and being inspired I've taken the plunge and started ordering components for a HERMS control box that will incorporate the controls for a pump as well. To keep costs down I'm considering using a pid to control the HLT and fitting it with a coil to act as a heat...

Newquay Steam Bitter (clone if known)

A real blast from the past. I remember buying this from Daniels in Hayle, filling a cool box and taking said coolbox onto the Towans for an excellent days sunbathing with my then girlfriend. That's got to have been 1984 or 85. From memory when they originally started selling it they had Grolsh...

    Hi From Bristol

Hi All, I'm looking to get back into homebrew after 12 years away. Reading the forums it's pleasing to see that the craft has developed in the intervening period and although I still have my 5 gal length kit that I've dusted off I'm really keen to move to 10 gal and possibly a herms one at...
