    FV Mash Tun

I got a cool box from Argos a couple of years ago , it was about £18 at the time and I use a mashing bag inside it. It is just the basic box with no tap but after the mashing period I lift the bag out and stain a couple of times adding to boiler for the boil.

    W. etherspoons ale festival.

Spoons, only pubs I drink in when I am not at home supping my own brew. Never been unsatisfied. Many beers over the times have been beers that I had never heard of before, but good taste and flavor. As for the food what do you want for the price that you pay? In the past I have been to so called...

    Woodfordes Nog Review

I must admit that when I go to Norfolk I sup the Woodfordes range of beers. I am mainly a grain brewer but three years ago I decided to try the Woodforde kits. I must admit that I don't like wherry but Nog is a different kettle of fish altogether. I find that, unlike Wherry it is as good if not...

    Home brew on line

Just found a web site 'Home Brew On Line' shop at York. Can anyone recommend this site as OK. Can you reassure me it has nothing to do with the Home Brew Company of old.

    batch bottling

On the tried and tested amount of one level tea spoon of dry priming sugar per pint/500mil bottles put into the bottle prior filling, that I have been using for several years. I am thinking of the batch bottle idea of 80/100 grams of sugar into the 2nd ferment bucket to use with the little...

    head forming with syringe

Hi there. I have read several posts on using a syringe to form the head on the poured pint. Forgive my ignorance but what type of syringe is this as I have never dabbled with such items. And where would I get one from. It seems the ideal way for me to get the beer head to my satisfaction as I...

    What is Wherry?

Wherry is a good beer sold as said in nearly all Norfolk pubs, ( the other beer in that locality is Adnams of Southwold). When I am in Norfolk I always drink one or the other. Although I drink Wherry in the pubs it does not resemble the kit version in any way as the pub version is a good...

    Dry Hopping questions

For dry hopping I do as you say with the muslin bag. I find it suites me to put the hops into the bag and tie the neck around the handle of a glass half pint beer tankard and throw the lot into the f/v it should sink to the bottom.

I'm new to the forum - Want another keg - Which one?

I always use budget kegs (Wilkos). I seal the vent in the top of the ordinary cap by filling it with super glue, around the rubber washer, so as to make it air tight. Also I seal the hole on the underside likewise. I prime the keg with 50 gram of sugar and I have no trouble. I find I have enough...

    closed lid

There is a theory on the disadvantages of boiling the wort with a lid of boiler on. Many views are against this idea but some say its OK as it keeps the heat full up to the mark. What are your views on this subject

    average brewer's age

After home brewing was made legal in 1963 I began brewing at the age of 28 in 1966, that puts me at 73 now. There was not the array of supliers that we now have and I began brewing by buying a 2lb glass jar of malt extract from Boots the chemist, (making sure it was not the cod liver oil...

    Brews per Month?

I usualy brew every 3 weeks but I must say I have been brewing once per week and sometimes twice per week from September until early November to get an adiquate suply for the festive season. At the moment I have 23 litres of tweaked Geordie mild: 23 litres of Wherry made just out of the box no...

I find if I use late boiling aroma hops for pale aleit is EKG. But I have found over various brews that if I dont use a late hop at all I have had several good pale ale results with target. not as a late boiling hop but used only for dry hopping
