Cherry / Raspberry Wheat - a couple of questions..

There's also the Brewfirm fruit beers. Someone once said on here that you can't just use normal fruit because it would need to be sterilized. Is this right or can we actually just used tinned fruit or mashed fruit?

    spray malt and sugar

Hi all I have asked for a couple of Brewferm packs for Christmas. The Abdij and Ambriorix. They both require "Spray Malt" which is a new concept to me. I have only made 3 brews and they were simple ones. These are both dark trapist ales. Do I want dark spray malt? Do the different spray...

Haha @Rob ! Did consider it! Just been looking at these Pet bottle carbonators. Can't find anywhere in the UK that sell them though :( Might just have to risk flat ale...which I don't mind too much :)

    Ale, PET bottles and transportation

Hi all! I have some St peters ruby red ale in my keg. I haven't drunk any yet, it's about 4 weeks old now. I'm driving about 150 miles next week staying for a couple of nights and wondered if there would be any problems with filling up 2 or 3 Pet bottles with my new ale? Problems being, the...

yeast question "Gervin English Ale Yeast"

hi Black Rat This will be my second time of brewing this beer. The first time was my very first brew and everyone was saying to use a proper yeast to make a better brew. I did as they said and used Nottingham yeast and had a brilliant beer. So now I have splashed out an extra £1 or 2 for a...

yeast question "Gervin English Ale Yeast"

Hi everyone I bought a packet of "Gervin English Ale Yeast" for my new brew (st peters ruby red ale). It has different instructions to others I've used and I want to know if I need to follow them or if I can just pour the yeast onto the warm wort as per usual instead of fannying about. The...

    bottling disaster?

Bugger! It was only a 10 or 12 litre kit (can't remember which) Have I actually created dangerous beer?! They're glass beer bottles zipped up in a suitcase with a blanket on top so if they do blow, the mess will be throw away! Is there any danger though? Not really sure what I was thinking...

    bottling disaster?

Hi everyone! I've just been completing my second brew. It was a Brewferm Kriek (cherry beer). Anyway, I think I messed up...5 times! Tell me your thoughts! Firstly when I went away so it was sat in the primary fermenter for 12 days. Secondly I transferred it to a secondary fermenter, but was...

Pressure leak! What are my options

I had the same problem yesterday. King Keg valve not working properly. I now only have a very tiny leak - insulation tape has sorted it out for now, until I start a new brew. Didn't re-prime though - just injected another bulb...Maybe I should reprime too? This is what I did...

newbie beer question about using corks in bottles instead

Hi everyone Just wondering, if anyone has tried bottling using wine bottles and corks/rubber corks/screw tops instead of normal beer bottles? Which works better? Seems like a cheaper and quicker option than buying a bottletop fitter and lots of smaller bottles. Is there any issue do you think...

    Bag in box?

Hi Just saw your post as I'm looking at bottling too. I thought about plastic bottles. Trouble is after a while they start to quietly perish! - They "leach" ( I think that is the word) chemicals into whatever the liquid is inside. They say you shouldn't really re-use plastic bottles. It may...

sugar, secondary fermentation, kegging and bottling

Thanks for the advice. I always think it's an interesting discussion "to secondary ferment or not to secondary ferment"...Creates lots of discussion and debate! Any more advice from anyone else would be great! But I think I might put maybe a couple of oz in the keg like you said. Cheers!
