    Anyone been blown away yet?

Not yet, but I'm just about to cross the North Sea from Hoek to Harwich and I think it's going to be a bit bumpy :(

Thermobox or pan for boiler and HLT

Yes, Alemans thread is one of my influences I have to admit. The shinyness of an all thermopot brewery isn't infulencing me at all.

Thermobox or pan for boiler and HLT

My build is about to take off as I have all the bits now, but I'm having last minute doubts about my chosen vessels for the HLT and boiler. Would a Nordic Thermo box make a much better boiler(or HLT) than a straight forward pan? Will I end up just insulatiing them in anycase? Should I just bite...

Of sight tubes and sealing wax

well not sealing wax, but it scans better :) I'm building a brewery, but as those that have done it know, it needs a good deal of looking at! Perhaps I should say I'm trying to build a brewery :| On the issue of sealing sight tubes, I've got skin fitting, and I've got polycaronate tube...

    Nordic Thermobox as a boiler?

Lots of useful information here. Thanks all for the replies. One further question if I may; how do you control the temp for a 'rolling boil'? I can think of a few solutions, but my brain being what it is, they are all complicated and will require MATHS from me. I'm rather hoping someone has...

    Nordic Thermobox as a boiler?

Evening all, I've been eyeing up the Nordic Thermobox as a possible candidates for a brewinthebag boiler. I've looked at the Mash tun conversion elsewhere and wondered if anyone had taken the conversion further and included heaters to turn one into a boiler. Any thoughts? ta Beardy.

    Building a boiler - a candidate?

I've been looking for a suitable vessel to make a boiler out of. The intention is to use tesco value kettle elements. My question is though, will this be a suitable vessel to use? HDPE Barrel Ta

Ruminations on moving from Kit to All Grain

I think this is the right place to ask, but I'm sure a kindly Mod will move it if I'm wrong :) I'm going to be ordering an additional keg and another kit in the next few days, but what I'd really like to do is brew AG. The thing is, it looks like it's quite big step up to AG in respect of kit...

Is a shed going to be to cold for conditioning?

As per the title, is an uninsulated shed going to be too cold at this time of year for conditioning a king Keg of beer?

    Immersion heaters as boilers?

I was discussing my home brewing the other day with a friend and saying how I'd like to move to all grain, but the equipment requirements were high. I was explaining what I'd seen on various how-to posts on here, and he asked why couldn't I use an immersion heater in a hot water tank as a...

Okaaay. How about an affordable alternative 8-)

Drum taps - are there any alternatives?

I barreled my second brew at lunch time, and my son has just stuck his head round my office door to tell me the tap was dripping. I managed to tighten it some, but it's going to be a total bugger when it comes to pouring the first pint. So as the title says, is there an alternative to the Drum...

How many pints to a gas charge?

My brew is now in a drinkable state, and very nice it is to. It's a bit cloudy, which I've put down to poor temp control during fermentation, I'll know better next time. But I have a problemette. I've got a top tap King Keg with about 36 pints in it, and a pin valve. I suspected there...

    Controling temperature

So my first brew has given me some thinking to do, and I'll be adapting my kit slightly before I start my next brew (another kit) My biggest concern though is controlling the temperarure for initial and secondary fermentation, as most of my house tends to be on the cool side except the kitchen...

    It lives!

Well ok, that might be an exaggeration but reports of it's death might have been over stated :) Just carried the keg down stairs to look at what could be done and discovered no mold when I opened the barrel. I could also smell the CO2 and there were patches of bubbles on the surface. (which is...

its worse than that, it's dead Jim

Yup that was what I said. Don't think it killed though as there was lots of foam initially.

its worse than that, it's dead Jim

didn't take an initail gravity reading (my first kit for 20+ years) FG was about 1017. As for warmth. As warm as it can be in our house, eg near the fire. Thugh I think this might be where it went wrong ;'(

its worse than that, it's dead Jim

It's been two weeks in the keg, so I decided that I should do a firs taste test. I cracked the tap, and nothing came out. So I refastened and reopened the tap to know avail. I took the top off the barrel, and there was no rushing of gas. It's as flat as flat can be. Worse than that, there are...
