Not new to home brewing but still class myself a novice...

Hello, so ive been using beer kits for a few years now. I still want to use them but improve them. I have done some research, read the how to guides on here & other sources, youtube, other home brew sites etc etc. 1. Someone said to me, "Why buy a cheap beer kit if youre going to add a £10 malt...

Adding hops to my beer kit, dont quite understand a reply i got...

Point 1 says add liquid at start of fermentation. I interpreted that as the beginning?. Yes, I use a barrell, but I have bought some bottles to try that way next time.

Adding hops to my beer kit, dont quite understand a reply i got...

Hello, I asked my local brew shop how to add & use hops because I was getting a lot of flavour at beginning but at end of my 40 pint kit, the flavour disappeared. I got this reply... You can make a hop tea by steeping appropriate hops in water at 80c for 45 mins, straining, then adding the...

    My taste test...

I bought two John Bull London Porter kits. In one, I put chocolate grains, hops & dark spray malt. In the other I only put sugar in, just followed the basic instructions. I could see a slight difference in taste but not as much as I thought I would. Soooooo is there anything else I can...

Whats the next stage I can do???...

Hello, ive been brewing from basic kits for quite a while now, so I'm now looking at taking things a step further. Try not to go all technical with me lol, but whats next stage I could do after kits?. What equipment needed, ingredients etc? Any suggestions would be welcome, even if its...

    Experimenting?...

A citrusy type pale ale. I use citrusy hops but feel I need that something extra to give it that burst of flavour. When I go in a pub & get a real ale & look at its description it sounds so simple but tasty, so I wanna try something like that???

Whats a good starting point which yeast to buy?

So basically just pick a random yeast sachet & give it a try?

Whats a good starting point which yeast to buy?

So I believe the yeast which comes with a kit isn't the best quality, but theres so many yeasts out there, how do I know which one is more suitable? Is it just trial & error?. I cant see a "Sticky" on this subject as a guideline?. Cheers

    Experimenting?...

I'm guessing a lot of people on here experiment with their brewing, but do you take big risks or subtle changes?. I wanna experiment but if I wait a few weeks & the thing isn't nice I aint gonna be happy wasting my ingredients ;-D

    My beer is "heavy going"...

Yeah  I know I don't need hops but instead of using 1kg of sugar I used 500g malt extract & 500g sugar.

    My beer is "heavy going"...

Its nice, but its heavy going if that makes sense. I'm drinking a Black Rock kit, with malt extract, hops, sugar the usual suspects. Does anyone know how to make it lighter for want of a better word?. I know its a weird question & hard to describe. I can give more details depending on...

    20 pint kits???...

Good to know that. I'll try freezing the remainder next time. I don't wanna be spending more on these fancy 2 can kits. But, how do you get it all out of the freezer bag?. As its a "gooey" consistency, do you not waste any with it sticking to the inside of the bag?.

    20 pint kits???...

Hello, I'm not as advanced as a lot of people on here, I still use 40 pint beer kits. I cant see many 20 pint kits anywhere, does anyone know if you can get these at all?. If not, is it possible to only use half of a 40 pint kit, or would the malt "go off" once the can has been opened...
