Why do you brew your own beer?

This is how I got started, sadly the member who produced this video has left the forum but it's a great, easy and inexpensive way to get started. http://www.thehomebrewforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=51779

Why do you brew your own beer?

Visited a pub in Prague called U Fleku that brewed the most amazing black lager. I can't get this beer anywhere only Prague so I decided to brew it myself. The only caveat is I had to move to all grain, get a boiler, an Inkbird, buy a fridge and a corny keg set up. It's been the most expensive...

    Cornelius

Warmer beer requires more carbonation but that isn't a big problem. I've a fridge but as our regular fridge has broken, my wife has hijacked it for our food (sickening, who needs food). In fairness if I had to do things over I'd concentrate on other parts of my brewing before a corny system. I...

    Fermentation Cabinet

A fridge is not a requisite btw (although it will make a great improvement), if you've never brewed before you can still do a great ale, wine or cider without one. Try a brew first before you go expending on a fridge.

    Fermentation Cabinet

If you can see by the other fridge thread you just need an Inkbird and a fridge. An aquarium heater also helps. A tall larder fridge is better suitable than an under counter fridge and don't be getting a fridge with those small freezers as it just wastes space.

Fridge for cold crashing and fermentation

If the fridge is kept indoors you could do away with the heater. That's what I do. I don't even have the Inkbird wired in, I also use it to control my mash temperature for all grain :)

What do you think of this set up? Thinking of buying one if reviews are ok

Natures Way (Houseofhomebrew) has the Grainfather in stock (as I know your from NI). Have a word with them and let you look at the system. It's a big outlay just to automate some processes, saying that efficiency and time will be saved and probably clarity will also improve. And who doesn't...

What do you think of this set up? Thinking of buying one if reviews are ok

Seems a good bit of kit but like others have noted, a Grainfather is tried and tested and well cemented into the market. If your willing to spend £400, you'd be better spending the extra on a Grainfather. You don't need all this fancy equipment to brew decent beer, a Peco boiler (or even a...

    Ikea digital thermometer

It doesn't need removing, if anything it may help others make a decision. Perhaps others could share there experiences, I'm sure there are some positive ones.

Got to love a local home brew shop..

www.houseofhomebrew.co.uk is just up the road from me <2 miles. It's part of a health food shop but has a decent selection of kits, grains, yeast and equipment. They work very hard and as one of the owners tells me they can crush up 3kg of grain and sell it for £3 for a lot of hard work or...

    Ikea digital thermometer

Also think I paid £5.25 about a year ago so that price has fairly went up.

    Ikea digital thermometer

I don't find it accurate, I've 2 that give 2 different readings. They jump all over the place in readings, I'm not happy with it TBH. For a few £ more I'd buy a https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01EFB0HNE/?tag=skimlinks_replacement-20 ^^ Just noticed it's a brilliant price! I paid twice...

    Czech Pilsner, Lager?

Storing will improve the beer but it won't make it taste like a lager. Next time you make a kit try splitting the brew and use a lager yeast in a 5L demijohn and brew that in your fridge. That will make for a good comparison. ^^ I have that Mexican Czeverza still to brew. I'll maybe practice...

    Rosetta

I think you heard or misunderstood the program wrong or are getting the facts mixed up with something else. If you could point me to an article or the program you watched then I'll gladly watch or read it as Astronomy is a hobby of mine. They probably got withing 20m of where they wanted to...

Where is the source for your information? This comet is much too faint to be seen in Hooke's time, there were no telescopes big enough or good enough to resolve this object let alone track it. Comets are spurious beasts, they give off dust and gasses in different directions that throw it's...

    Rosetta

Comets are named after there discoverers. This comet was discovered in 1969. Newton's Laws would make predictions on this comet, not Hooke's observations. I'm not sure I understand your point? Have you a source?

    Rosetta

I thought it was 2 Churyumov and Gerasimenko that discovered this comet ;) It's Newton's laws you are referring too that got us within 20m of the correct spot. Newton sounds a nasty bit of work when you read into him - he also had a run in with Leibnitz over calculus and sent many to their...

    Hello from Northern Ireland.

Everybody brought their own home brew (except me) and tasters were flying about with beer, wine, cider and whiskey. I don't think a pub would sell very much. The venue was fine and there was a decent sized crowd so maybe some day they may have to look at a bigger venue.

Corny Keg bar set up (soon to become a keezer)

I went to the club! Had to leave before I had one too many :) I'd only a couple of sips as I was driving, I didn't really know what to expect but there was a fair crowd. I sat at a beer table but there were wine tables. They were busy extracting a load of juice from a few barrels of apples...
