    Anyone brewing this weekend?

I'll be getting up early on Saturday to set my kit up providing the forecast is good.......boiling 50 litres of wort in your kitchen is not the greatest of ideas as I discovered last time I brewed and it decided to rain  APA to 1055 this weekend......plenty hops ;)

Get a brewing book, read it, read it again and then read it.

Definately agree with Aleman there. I have two books that I am ploughing through at the moment that would not make a lot of sense to a non-scientist. They are good books IMO, but very technical in parts and you need a reasonable scientific knowledge to get anything from them......took me back...

    Hops - Absorbtion of wort

Hi Guys....apologies if this has been asked before but I can't bring anything up on a search. My googling has been a bit contradictory too :wha: What figures are you guys using for wort losses (absorbtion) due to hop additions....whole leaf hops? I'm just trying to fine tune BeerSmith a little...

    Summer Beers

Every day here is summer for me as I'm not really a fan of big malty ales. Most of my beers are on the paler, hoppier side. Amarillo works a treat for me......I've used it many times as a single hop in low to moderate gravity beers with great success. It suits my taste buds.........smooth...

Help with new plate chiller please

I don't think it matters tbh, but I'd like to see confirmation as I have the exact same one 8-) Are you fitting an in-line filter before the wort hits the plate chiller? If so, I'd be interested to see it please. I've got a 'hop-rocket' ordered, I might use that as mine. ATB

    help with salifert

I use the average figures on my areas published water report. You should be able to download it from the water suppliers website, or ring them and ask them to send you one in the post. ATB

    19th Feb - SAmarillo

Hello again gurt. I got the hydrometer from Hampstead Homebrew. If you decide to get one, you will also need a 250ml trial jar. The Stevenson Reeves ones I had were terrible.....a lot smaller and harder to read. One of them was 2 points out, the other was 4 points out :o I usually use a...

    19th Feb - SAmarillo

Hi Gurt, The yeast is incredibly flocculant. I made a White Labs vial in to a 3 litre starter and I had difficulty getting it back in to suspension after it had worked out and then been put in to the fridge for 2 days. Same with the two starter bottles that I pitched. I probably don't aerate...

Missed my volume by half a litre, but was 3 points up on gravity. I didn't bother to liquor back to 1039.....but would have done if this was going to be entered in to the Spring Thing. ATB folks ;)

    19th Feb - SAmarillo

I've used WLP002 in a couple of brews before. It leaves the beer a little sweet, but nicely balanced IMO. It is an excellent flocculator :D Here are a few pics from brewday. In the end I went with my usual gypsum only treatment for the mash and boil. I also altered the finishing hops slightly...
