    Bittering Lesson needed.

Just a note here , use high AA% hops for bittering when possible because this helps to get a smoother bittering . Using lots of low AA% could cause a harshness to your beer .

    Batch versus Boil size

Not big enough for a full brew , if doing normal and def not enough if doing biab and also seems expensive . I have a 33l pot for boiling and 40 litre would be better as i boil around 32 litres . You could go gas for around £28 for a burner plus gas and get a 50 litre pot for around £65...

AG#3 Shoot the Moon (Blue Moon Clone)

The chap who re started Hoegaarden back in the 1960's Celis White after some time for several reasons he moved on and set up Celis White and he also started or helped with Blue moon ( i don't think he's involved anymore , apart from he died last year :( ) and so from that way of thinking i...

    Question on HERMS

Even if volume wasn't an issue and all was well it would be a pain to keep messing about with it and seeing as making a herms pot (if on gas ) is very easy . Once built it's an easy brew day without hassle (mostly ) , using your hlt would create new grief every brew day that ain't there now...

AG#3 Shoot the Moon (Blue Moon Clone)

Hi , not sure if Blue moon uses a witbier strain of yeast , i would of thought so . Try T 58 dried yeast for this . I would also use around 20g of orange peel as you get a more hoegaarden drink around 15 g would be needed for this but blue moon is heavy on the orange so you'll need more than 6g...

    Raspberry wheat beer

Best to add the raspberry like dry hopping , a few days at least after pitching . I would leave till around day 5 then add raspberry then leave in for a week .

Has anyone used the maltase rest ?

:hmm: Interesting sounds a lot like preparing raw wheat for mashing (sort of ) . Ferulic rest is pointless imo as it was used to drop ph of mash but would take hours to work and is not needed , i have not noticed a difference when doing a rest there . mashing in the 40's plays with the clove...

    Ag - extract equivalents

What is the recipe ? Use the speciality grains same as , hops a little more if boiling with less volume . Use dme to get the % you want as the speciality malts only give you colour and flavour . If light beer use light extract . Using a free recipe software will make this easy .

    Batch versus Boil size

To get around 1045 you'll need approx 4 to 4.5 kg of grain . Grain will absorb around 1 litre per 1 kg . You'll want around 2.5 litres per kg of grain (minimum 2 litres but will be a bit thick ) so for 4 kg you need 10 litres and will only get 6 litres back . But unless you want poor efficiency...

first extract brew: a witbier (with pics)

Sounding good there , just so you know for next time if after it has conditioned and you still notice the hops then (unless you like it like that ) reduce the amount of hops ( mainly aroma hop assuming you're noticing hop aroma ) to match the style more , no hops should be noticeable . ;)

    Brewday - Standard/Ordanry Bitter

Hope this turns out well for you , what's the beer you're drinking in picture .

Off flavours... where am I going wrong?

I would of said your mash ph was too high but you mention soft water , you do need to look at water treatment though as it has a huge impact . Murphys lab will test your water for around £18

    mash schedule for a pilsner

Hi , forget the acid rest not needed and if using german pilsner malt do a 15 min rest at 55c for better head retention . I would also do the 63c and 71c rest too . This will be worth it . Lager for 6 weeks for improvement too .

    First extract recipe

Hi , i would drop the gravity a little . Over 5.5% seems to risk an alcohol taste and can get a bit much ( not always though) i would aim for 4.5 to 5% . This will also be ready quicker if lower . Apart from that your recipe looks fine , good luck .

Help in building a HERMS system

Hi usually you have the pump at the start because you will need to feed some liquid into it before it works so closer to the liquid the easier to use otherwise it'll be empty and won't suck/pump .

Extract/Partial mash - longer to condition than kits?

I found my extract brews were faster to be ready ( a little) but mainly better , more like beer than kits imo .
