    Hop strainer required

Thanks for this, would this be the one I'm looking for? http://www.thehomebrewcompany.co.uk/hop-strainer-p-83.html

    Hop strainer required

Hi all, I'm looking for a strainer or device that stops gunk blocking my boiler tap when transferring to kegs. It's a plastic Peco boiler with the standard black plastic tap. I thought the false bottom would take care of this but it fits badly do need another solution. Thanks

    Infected brew?

Perfect, thanks for the timely replies. Was just curious as this was the first time with a different brew style. This was at the end of the fermentation period as I was about to keg it, that's when I was scooping bits.

    Infected brew?

Hi all, just completed the fermentation stage of my first AG brew. Attached is a pic of the outcome. Normally I get a crusty krausen with no floating bits after doing kit brews, is what I have this time normal or is it infected? I scooped out the bad parts from the surface and kegged anyway...

    BIAB Idea...

My thinking was that the second outside bag would remove a lot of the sediment and husk as well as the hops. It would give the hops more room to move about as well. Just thinking out loud so to speak, this might be garbage.

    BIAB Idea...

That's not going to help with your grain pull-out though.

    BIAB Idea...

You can never be too careful whilst brewing. (on the plus side, this thread may show up to a whole new Google audience...)

    BIAB Idea...

This may be the stupidest thing that's ever been asked... Would it be possible to do a BIAB brew with two bags together? As in one that lifts the grains out after mash then one that stays in for the boil that lifts out the larger sediment parts and hops alleviating the need for a hop...

    First Brew Set-Up

I'd go with the cellar - if your fermentation vat is sealed I doubt an contaminants would cause a problem. I'd be more concerned about temperature variance.

    Cheap false bottom

Evening! If anyone's looking for a cheap false bottom, this is what Get er Brewed are using for their Peco boilers and selling on their site (albeit £8 cheaper). This might not suit everyone's set up, I'm going to have to adapt my one somehow for the boiler to stop it moving about but...

    First Brew Day underway

The problem I seemed to have was it was rising up during the boil. I used a metal microwave stand thing with the false bottom resting on top, perhaps it wasn't low down enough to get a tight seal. I don't see how using bolts would keep it from popping up though :?

    First Brew Day underway

They must have changed what thermometers they are giving out with the kits, received one of those cheap Chinese probe ones. It's digital and does the job but takes a while to get to the correct temperature.

    First Brew Day underway

Hi Alex, I've just done this brew myself after buying the same kit. How did you find the false bottom? Did it stay in place and did you use anything to prop it up? Did you sparge at all and did you have to top up with water at any point? At the end I was left with just 15l in the fermenter...

    My first AG brew...

Hi all, I recently bought a starter BIAB kit from Get er brewed after reading a thread on here on how simple it was. After a few weeks sorting out various bits (wort chiller parts and something to prop false bottom up) today was the day. The kit I received from GeB was a Hoppy APA. 3 hop...

    Wort chiller pump problem

All set up using the B&Q blue connectors and 15mm - 10mm reducers, no leaks. Thanks for the help.

    Wort chiller pump problem

Ace, thanks for this, i'll pop along on Saturday. I'm going to keep the pvc tubing on the 'out' side and i'll go with this set up for the 'in' side. Is it better for the cold water to travel up the coil or down, or doesn't it matter?

    Wort chiller pump problem

Thanks for the reply. Are these the correct parts? http://www.screwfix.com/p/reducing-coupler-compression-fitting-15-10mm/51238?_requestid=253774 http://www.diy.com/departments/hozelock-hose-inlet-connector/189839_BQ.prd

    Wort chiller pump problem

OK so the pump isn't suitable for the job, even after trying Spapro's method it stops moving water when returned to normal height. I'm now looking at using an outside tap with hozelock attachment going to a meter long regular hose with a female hozelock attachment each end (picture attached)...

    Wort chiller pump problem

It's a typical coiled immersion chiller, perhaps it might need a bit of help as Spapro pointed out. I'll give it a go and see what happens. If not I may just have to pop to B&Q and get a fitting for the outside hozelock tap.
