    Forgot to take readings

Hey Up I stupidly forgot to take any readings from my wine when I started making it so I have no idea what possible % I will have. My freezer had broken & started to defrost, I only noticed it when I was halfway through brewing plum wine and then had to quickly use some blackcurrants in...

    Brewferm, Abdij review

tempted to start brewing this one, was thinking of using Medium malt 500g instead of sugar.

    Woodfordes Wherry Review

Well I finally have completed my first brew :) Now I'm tired xD So glad I racked it into a second bucket and left it for a week. The amount of extra sediment at the bottom! I used my primary 40 brown bottles and needed extras! Total of 44 bottles! 22 Litres of beer, batch primed with 85g...

    Removing smells from FV

Will lay off the bottle brush, I don't use it as a scrubber but to gently remove some stuck bits. I use Milton as my steriliser. Just wanted to make sure it was all ok was all :)

    Removing smells from FV

How can you easily remove smells from the FV after it's been used? Basically my wilko plastic FV smells of beer even after it's been gently cleaned an left airing for a week. Here's how I clean it after I'm done brewing: I use a bottle brush to remove the crud that gets stuck to it. I...

    Bulldog Toffee Apple Cider Kit

I did search but could not find anything. Has anyone done this kit before? I have seen some YouTube videos and it looks quite good and I love the idea of toffee apple cider, as I drink the brothers toffee apple cider. I have heard good things about the Bulldog Kits but not much info on...

    Brewing a porter

This sounds perfect! Always wanted to try my hand at boiling grains etc. Nothing better than making something for my old man from it! Now to see what large pots I have

    Brewing a porter

Hi All My old man wants me to brew him a porter. But ideally we don't want 40 pints of the stuff. As this is something he will crack open as and when. Which may mean 1 porter a week get's drunk  Are there any kits that do half of this amount? Whats the shortest kit I can get?

    Woodfordes Wherry Review

Mine has been in the FV for 9 days so far, I plan on leaving for a full two weeks. Then racking, leaving to settle and clear slightly for a few days and then rack again but this time prime with sugar and bottle. How much priming sugar should be used for batch priming for bottles?

    American oaked rum

I'm tempted to give this a go as I love I&G 😁 However I was thinking of adding the oak chips into a muslin bag to contain them. As I don't like the idea of having to filter it out as I to will be bottling from my FV. How long should it condition for, is a month long enough?

    Woodfordes Wherry Review

Well I kicked this off today. I'm correct in thinking 3.5% at a minimum? It smelt rather nice while tipping out the tins etc. Should brew up nice. Going to leave it a week and check it.

    Woodfordes Wherry Review

I'm due to brew this over the weekend. Never done a kit before. So exciting times! I will be using mineral water as I don't want a chlorine taste in my brews. Some people have said fermentation gets stuck, is this common? I will be using everything in the kit. I assume a good two weeks...

    Woodfordes Wherry Bitter Kit

This is the first beer kit I'm about to brew. Normally used to doing small batches of Ginger Beer (Non hop kind), wine and small turbo ciders in demijohns. I have a big brew barrel already. - Wilko Wide Neck Fermenter 25L I then use a Wilko Syphon Kit, but I'm wondering if that wont be...

    Yeast for Malt

Hey All, I have started brewing alot with DME because I love the malt taste. Done a Malt Ginger Beer and soon to do a Malt Apple Cider. I currently use Wilkos Gervin Ale yeast which for those in the USA is a Nottingham Yeast. I'm worried this yeast may strip my malty flavours to some...

    Question about using DME

Clibit, that's near enough to what I was expecting. I have no idea what went wrong there though. It was a clean fully prepared sample after cooling, and put in a 100ml measuring flask. Taken direct from the demijohn etc. Everything was dissolved. Even checked the hydrometer and its sitting...
