    Gravity reading Conundrum

Tried that and it made no difference. Both read zero 🤔

    Gravity reading Conundrum

Apologies for jumping on to this thread with a slightly different query, but I checked my wort before pitching yeast with both a refractometer and hydrometer just to see what difference there would be. Refractometer 1.057, yet hydrometer 1.052! I checked my refractometer with water again to...

    Dry hop problem?

I ended up going with a hop tea, which was the right move judging by a taste from the trial jar. It has made it taste like beer rather than malt only 🍻

    Dry hop problem?

Hi folks. I've brewed a festival Old Suffolk Strong Ale. It said to add the 50g hops after 5 days. Now I did this, but instead of adding them loose as instructed, I filled the strainer bag that came with the kit, as I didn't want particles floating about. Five days later and it's floating on...

What are you drinking tonight 2020.

Yeah. I love drygate orinoco breakfast stout so this piqued my interest straight away. See what it's like compared to a belching beaver (no I'm not in Thailand 😉)

    AMyd666 Brewday

Brew No. 12. Festival Old Suffolk Strong Ale. Nice kit with two 1.5kg malt pouches, 1kg dextrose, 50g boadicea hops, hop bag and 90g priming dextrose. Makes 23l of 6%. I chucked in the 90g bag too. Interestingly my OG is either 1.057, or 1.052 depending on refractometer and hydrometer readings...

Nice kit with two 1.5kg malt pouches, 1kg dextrose, 50g boadicea hops, hop bag and 90g priming dextrose. Makes 23l of 6%. I chucked in the 90g bag too. Interestingly my OG is either...

Beginners Guide to Water Treatment (plus links to more advanced water treatment in post #1)

Thanks for your feedback. I wasn't sure either, as I'm sure I've read somewhere here that you don't need to for kits, but can't find it, plus this thread made me curious. Cheers!

Beginners Guide to Water Treatment (plus links to more advanced water treatment in post #1)

Hi Steve. Sorry for pestering you again, but I've ordered a Festival Old Suffolk Strong Ale kit and wonder what water treatment I'd require? I couldn't get any calcium chloride, but do have gypsum to up the Ca, then adjust pH with bicarbonate of soda to keep my water between 5.2 and 5.6. One, is...
