    Motueka SMaSH recipe

I have just made something very similar to this, only difference being that I used lager malt, and kolsch yeast. Plus a little bit of Munich. I would expect your recipe to turn out very similar...... Mine is very good, if I say so myself

    Biab... split Wort Challenge....

I would give a Saison yeast a go. In fact I have just done something similar; half kolsch : half Saison. The Kolsch is bottled and drinking, the Saison will be bottled tomorrow. I did up the hops quite a bit ( 500g motueka in 100l) vs. a true to style kolsch, but apart from that I didn't...

Retro cars - suggestions and advice

Volvo S60 d5 is worth looking at, the d5 engine is renowned for going on for ever. When I was looking for mine I saw one for sale with 660,000 miles on it. 6 cambelt changes and 46 services. It was still on original engine/gearbox. You see loads for sale with 200,000+ miles. Mine cost in...

    The crossmyloof brewery yeast

Same experience here, started at 1.060, finished at 1.020. Tried stirring, upping temp all the way to 30c, nothing......after a couple of weeks of inactivity have put a pack of mangrove jack's Saison yeast in and is us fermenting away, down to 1.010 and is continuing to ferment. As mentioned...

    Cheapest place to buy grains

Brewers Select are the cheapest I have found, if you are happy to buy a full 25kg sack. Lager and Pale malts are only £12.40 per sack. I collect in person, so I don't know how much postage is, from other threads on here I think it might be quite high, as they are really geared up to serve...

The 'Recommend me a TV series' thread

A slightly quirky one I have enjoyed is The man in the high castle, loosely based in the book by Phillip K Dick. Set post ww2, the Germans won the war and have occupied the US. The Japanese occupy the west coast. Another vote for Dexter, SoA and Ray Donovan. I did enjoy house of cards but...

    UBrew

Another way that I have chilled small batches is to boil some water to sterilise, then put in the freezer in an appropriately sized starsanned Tupperware. You can then drop the ice straight into the wort and stir. That, combined with sitting your brew pot in a sink of iced water will chill...

    Free delivery?

I would suggest you take a look at Malt Miller. Whilst postage isn't free they do have a 2016 hop sale at the moment, some are getting on for half price. Post for up to 600g is only £3.60

    Pliny the Elder

I would recommend you go for it then. It is a lovely beer.

    Pliny the Elder

It is very well balanced, doesn't taste that strong at all. I shared some with some friends who are amateurs, after a couple they slurred that it was about 5%. So don't make it if you don't want to get plastered, but don't don't ( apologies for all the don'ts!) Make it because you are worried...

    Pliny the Elder

Have a look at the Bertus Brewery blog site. He has loads of IPA's including 4 iterations of Pliny the Elder, plus a couple of Pliny the younger. I have tried versions 2 and 3 of PtE, both turned out really well and pretty much the same. I have also tried his milk stout, kolsch and a couple...

    Pliny the Elder

I have tried it a couple of times and been very pleased with the outcome. Have a look at the Bertus Brewery blog, I followed the second and third versions on his site. If you like brewing IPA's there is plenty more on that blog to inspire you. I have also done his milk stout, kolsch and a...

Efficiency difference from different suppliers of malt - advice please

I have had a similar experience recently. The funny thing is that in my case it was a swap from using the 2 big Irish suppliers to Baird's/Brewers Select. As a result I currently have 100 litres of 6% Kolsch fermenting!. The great thing is that the grain only cost £12.40 for 25kg (I...

    CRossmyloof saison

Might be worth double checking that your hydrometer is taking an accurate, would explain a lot if not. Try dropping it in water at roughly 20c and see how close to 1.000 it is reading
