    Advice on Damson Wine

Recycling will save the world! I like swing tops because you can burp the wine without letting any oxygen in and then just reuse them when they mysteriously become empty.

    Advice on Damson Wine

Personally, I do it before bottling as any CO2 given off will help reduce oxidation. There’s nothing wrong with keeping the bubbles if you like them. What are you bottling in? Most can take a bit of pressure. If you’re worried then you can use 1 PET (the plastic bottles pop come in) bottle and...

    Advice on Damson Wine

You can get rid of the fizz (if desired) with Degassing wand <- instructions on making one. Don’t forget you can backsweeten if you want, but this is the great thing about this hobby, if you like it, it’s good!

    Pea Pod wine with....Tea?

How about mint? Pea and mint soup is one of my favourites.

    No fizz!

Doesn’t fairy liquid affect head retention?

Pressure Barrels - More than you wanted to know!

Cheers everyone. I might pick them up and give them an overhaul. :) Annoyingly one of my neighbours growing up supplies co2 to local pubs too! I converted my welder to take it as it was a fraction of the cost.

Pressure Barrels - More than you wanted to know!

I've always thought that using a PB would give you a short shelf life to drink the beer, but is that an old assumption based on the the mini kegs (like hobgoblin) you buy in the shops? How long would you expect to get to drink the beer in a PB? It's only me at home drinking beer and I tend to...

My attempt at a gallon of mead failed! Why?

Check the temp range on the yeast as well. I tend to rehydrate my yeast before pitching (adding to the must (the water/honey mixture)) in some warm water (usually around 18-24•C) with a little sugar or honey and leave it for 15-30 mins for the yeastie beasties to wake up and then add them must...

    Ridiculous ebay homebrew listings

It’s been a while since I sold on eBay but would explain why I’ve seen less £1 items with £99 P&P.

    Advice on Damson Wine

I get it to around 8% depending on the FG (Final Gravity) but it’s not about strength (for me anyway) it’s about enjoying the process and the finished product. Just be aware that when you mix it too much now it’s fermenting you might oxidise it. It’ll give it that vinegar flavour you get on the...

    Ridiculous ebay homebrew listings

That’s because eBay only charge fees on the listing price and not the shipping costs. But they force you to post for free so they encourage and entice you.

🤣 you’ve got to stay safe mate! I used to sell games workshop models online. New restrictions made it harder and harder to keep the business afloat and I lost all my personal models in a house fire. I know it’s not quite RPG. I keep trying to convince myself I don’t need a shotgun to go clay...

    Cider press material

Good evening one and all, I’ve built a cider presser in anticipation of a glutton of pears from a friend. I’ve gone with the fabric wrap type. Has anyone built one before? What fabric did you use? I’d like to be able to bung it in the washingmachine afterwards. Is Muslin strong enough? Got...

way to stop pomace from floating into airlock

You can also do primary fermentation in something like a bucket (make sure it’s food grade) then rack the liquid (leaving solids behind) into the Demijohn (DJ) for secondary. This will mean the majority of the time it’s bubbling like a steam train is not in the DJ. I filled a DJ with water and...

UK employment falls by biggest amount in over a decade.

Sadly I suspect the latter purely for financial reasons. But there’ll be some smoke and mirrors to cover it up. This is slightly misleading. If a claimant is in receipt of a “legacy benefit” (ESA, JSA etc.) and has a change of circumstance (eg. They’ve moved house or their partner has moved...

    A level exam's predicted grades

Why are they downgrading them? Mini Hagrid is years off exams yet and I suspect it’ll have all changed by the time she gets there.

    Wilko kit (don’t shoot me!)

Thanks Terry and Darrell, I’m going to grab some EKGs from kegthat (they’re only around the corner from me. :) ) Just need to see how many pears I’m going to get next week to see if I need the big FV for perry before jumping with this beer. :) I’ll keep you all up to date when I drink this beer.
