What are you drinking tonight 2024.

Look who’s not on-call and submitted her essay on adjunct mashes this morning 🎉😃. Lots of different beers - feel a bit sad drinking on my own but I reckon that should wear off after the second of these or so.

The Spotify Wrapped and Apple Music Replay thread

Just catching up here and really cool to see what we’ve been listening to. I’m struck by how much more music you all listen to than I do. I love music and we’ve smart speakers all over the house but due to some complex reasons we relatively rarely have them on - apart from when I’m cooking 😍. My...

    An Ankoù brewday:

Oh RedX that’s a wee blast from the past. I used it in three batches of a festbier 2kg + lager malt 3.5kg and some acidulated malt for a 23litre batch. Went down rather well and had a ruby tint that I liked. The 2nd batch was the best and I couldn’t quite work out why but it was one of the...

    Whamageddon

I've lost my airpods this week, and rarely use the car, so I reckon this may be the first year I've a chance at getting into December avoiding this... I also have to admit to enjoying the song when it was first released and singing along to it then.. but I was a teeny bit younger then.

    Recommend me a digital refractometer

Short version - is along the lines of Mashbag ... nope. Trust me, I've looked and I like shiny things 🤩. The Anton Paar easyDens is neither good value nor particularly accurate, it's sort of none of what anyone needs. The basic entry level density meter for accurate measurement also made by...

Fibre to the property - FTTP

One of my learning nuggets from having used 3 versions of mesh routers is that the ease of setup and software to update and support the mesh is more important than the devices themselves. The mesh network protocols are well established, with speeds then varying with how many bands each device...

Fibre to the property - FTTP

@Chippy_Tea a bit of a late reply about the eero WiFi routers that yes they are the easiest I have come accross to set up and add new access points to. I have 4 covering the house and garage where I previously needed six of the Linksys mesh routers. Our house has stone thick walls so most people...

Fibre to the property - FTTP

To further support this. I used the livechat function with vodafone to get the broadband login for the router. Configuration did take a bit longer as I needed a laptop with an ethernet port to configure the router and that was a tad complicated as the autosetup didn't work... but mesh working in...

Fibre to the property - FTTP

Ok....maybe time to reveal my slightly geeky side... We have Fibre in through the wall to the fibre connection under the stairs through to a separate hardware VPN Gigabit router, switch(non managed), and eero wifi 6 routers on mesh, with Cat6 cabling to several rooms including my office...

    UKSkydiver's Brewdays

Oh that sounds a smart idea - I've not heard of a dry hop with coffee beans before - did they sink with yeast flocs or just float?

    Stu's brü's

You'd be really unlucky to have an infection late like that as bacterial contamination that drops ABV is usually early when there's plenty of sugar around. Bottling will help as it limits the oxygen available - Don't give up hope but maybe don't condition the bottles near anything too valuable 🙈.

Experiment beer ending up too sweet

Thanks I've just noticed you had already said about the Saflager... 🙈 So I suspect your fermentation temperature will have been higher than 14° with a vigorous fermentation over the limited time described as there will have been heat generated by the fermentation, that though on it's own...

Experiment beer ending up too sweet

I can't see mention of the yeast used? Your residual sweetness may have a lot to do with whether it's able to ferment maltotriose, it's maximum attenuation and alcohol tolerance. You can alway take a litre off and add a new yeast, give it 24 hours warm and add back to the whole to restart...

    Heriot-Watt Brewing and Distilling course

Yes like a distiller...😁. I'm not sure I'll do anything in particular with the degree if I do ok in it, I know I've written about vague aspirations of working in the industry but right now my job is really full on and it feels like there's so much to learn in this space I'm working in. I like to...

    Heriot-Watt Brewing and Distilling course

Oh I haven’t posted for ages on this thread. I’m currently working my way through the cereals and malting module which I’m finding hard going. I struggle a bit with plant biology ….not my thing really. I prefer my biology walking and talking. The second half of the module on water chemistry...

I have a site replicator back at home (currently in Orkney) which I could point at their recipe section if it would help. It can replicate a site offline, with or without graphics, so could automate the process of copying them. I won’t be back till later in November though.

I’ve been reflecting on the positivity on this thread. I’ve never come across such universal praise for a company. I do hope that the guys from CML get to see this thread. ❤️👍
