    Newbie mash efficiency problems... HELP!!!

I'm hoping so mate. As long as i get 40 500ml bottles from a batch i am happy but one or two extra bottles get me some samples to test before it's ready. My first batch was a grain kit that came with equipment and only been bottled for a week but thought i would have a taste today as i had a...

    Wilkinsons Best Bitter

To be honest they weren't really to my taste. They're not as clean or flavourful as woodfordes kits for example, and woodfordes wherry is cheaper in wilko than the wilko own brand 2 can kits. I improved a couple of them with the additions but they're very dark and until you add extra hops to...

    Recommendations needed ...

Nelsons revenge and woodfordes wherry were my fav kits but wherry will only get you 4 to 4.5%. It's very tasty though. If you like indian pale ales that are stronger have a go at the headcracker by woodfordes. Im no ipa fan but that gets a lot of good reviews.

    Wilkinsons Best Bitter

I got 5 of these in a sale back in aug/september for 2 quid a kit. Only 1 was past SBD and the others went until 2016. I have added all sorts to them. Medium DME brew enhancer golden syrup and hop teas. I wouldnt buy them again unless they were 2 quid each.

    Newbie mash efficiency problems... HELP!!!

Firstly many thanks for taking the time to read this thread. I have now done done 4 AG brew days since i got my equipment on boxing day. I either finish up with less wort at the right gravity or the right amount of wort at a lowe final gravity than expected. The thermometer i got with the kit...

Thinking about switching to AG... advice?

I agree! The taste in the trial jar alone before any yeast added has lots of flavour coming through so i jnow they will taste fantastic! And yes i think the same. I doubt i would do extract kit again unless of course i was desperate. But im seriously reducing my alcohol intake and planning on...

Thinking about switching to AG... advice?

Im starting to become a bit more efficient but 8 hours from start to finish including sterlising everything and cleaning everything afterwards i am struggling to see where i can save time as i insist at the moment on doing 90 minute mash and 90 min boil... Im happy at that though it's a good...

Thinking about switching to AG... advice?

Okay, so i waited until the 2nd of jan so i could get some irish moss. Everythong was going fine, except this time i boiled under the extractor fan on the cooker. When i was cooling i noticed a couple of drips coming down from the extractor fan and into the brew. Oh well, i will be bottling that...

Would that kill the yeast and cause problems with secondary ferment?

Thinking about switching to AG... advice?

Been working the last few days so not had much chance to reply. I left the lid off when boiling but did leave it on when hearing back up. Mine has a bazooka fitting with a plastic false bottom on it to protect the element. Although after cooling i cleaned it out straight away, unscrewed the...

Thinking about switching to AG... advice?

Good advice on the chutney barrels!!! Once i get up to scratch i think i will invest in some. Just done the kit today. Couple of mistakes on my front but the "mashkit instructions were ****! No actual numbers or amounts and 1 bag of hops. Nothing to say to add them all at the begining or to...
