    Safe infection?

I think the term is 'no known pathogens can exist in beer' Notice the disclaimer :D

    7 days without beer :-(

Look on the bright side, your liver gets a break :)

    My wort chiller

That looks great! Easier to clean than the standard coil, for certain. Any idea of the surface area ?

    Anyone use Speidel plasic containers?

Thanks everyone! I'll be placing my order tomorrow. Cheers! Awfers

    Anyone use Speidel plasic containers?

I can get the 60 litre version for about £35 - £40, which for here isn't that bad. The big blue plastic ones I've seen here too, but they run about the same price oddly.

    Anyone use Speidel plasic containers?

Hi All, I'm looking to upgrade my fermenter farm to something bigger than the 30 litre plastic buckets I'm currently using so I don't have to split my 40 litres of wort between two fermenters. Has anyone had experience (good or bad) with using this sort of fermenter...

    sparging

Ouch.. Maybe also build yourself an immersion wort chiller?

    this recipe look ok ?

I know what you can use wheat for. But for better clarity of the final product a Cara Pils would probably be better. YMMV.

    Delay bottling?

Yes, I'm aware of the time requirements for autolysis, I still hold that it's good practice. Oxidation can be managed by flooding with CO2 any recipient that will hold the beer post-fermentation (secondary fermenter, bottling vessel and even bottles if you like) Infection can be managed by a...

Welcome! Pull up a chair and enjoy learning about beer !

    where to buy?

Some good beers can be made with Extract and kits. Granted, they'll not be as good as a well-fashioned all grain, but they'll still be excellent compared to 99% of what you can buy in the stores. At the same time, unless you do a lot of homework before jumping in the deep-end with AG (all...

    this recipe look ok ?

May I ask what MO is ? Marris Otter ? What's the wheat for ? What style are you trying to achieve? (or is it a brew on a whim ?) You'll be something around 4.5% Alcohol.. Hops at 90mins, will that be first wort hopping ?

    Bottle Tree

Bought from a homebrew store... what if it sat in the room where they grind the grain?

    Bottle Tree

I soak mine prior to bottling in a 20 litre bucket filled with a water and OxiClean solution, which is then used to soak the bottles and assorted things needed for filling (hoses, filler etc).

    Delay bottling?

Bowl Sprayer is correct, racking it off to a secondary fermenter after fermentation stops is good practice, it helps prevent yeast autolysis as well as absorbing additional harsh tannins from any hops that transfered into the fermenter from the kettle. As he says, you should try and get it down...

    Filtering cold break?

Interesting idea. Looks like a convoluted counterflow wort chiller :) Just curious, why are you worried about cold break in the fermenter ? Normally the hot and cold break will settle out in the fermenter (if you've cooled quickly enough to cause the cold break to coagulate) and you simply...

    Delay bottling?

No worries at all! You can let your beer sit on the yeast bed for a while before worrying about autolysis etc.

    Coopers apa first ever brew!

Welcome new brewer! 20° fermentation temperature for a lager is a shortcut to starting it off, but ideal lager fermentation temp hovers somewhere between 9°C and 11°C. Granted, who knows what dry yeast Coopers threw in with the LME :) If it was lager yeast, your beer may exhibit some...

    brupaks bavarian weissbire?

If you have a LME, why not throw in some more DME to create a Weizenbock ? Perfect for early spring!

FV still smells of previous brew??

It's a downside of fermenting in plastic (not that it harms anything, you might have some flavour migration, but not enough that you would detect I would imagine). You might also notice, if you're fermenting a stout or the like, that the plastic will absorb some of the colour too. If you...
