    Best kit for Cabernet Sauvignon

I finished a Harris Premium Cabernet Sauvignon kit last week. It tastes great already, have put it away to age. Also currently finishing off a Cellar 7 Cabernet Sauvignon kit so i can compare the two in a few months time. The Harris kit came with 7.1 kg juice the Cellar 7 came with...

    So far, soooo good!

I found cider from a kit improved considerably when left beyond two months so with turbo cider from supermarket juice i also try to age for a minimum of 2 months. If supplies are low it doesn't always make it that far though :)

    First time brew question

If they are all frothing up then you appear to have fermentation underway so its likely you have a bad seal around the bung or the airlock. I use 5 litre water bottles as demijons and use petroleum jelly to seal around the airlock bung, you may want to give that a try.

    Brew belt or heatpad

Years ago i used both the belt an pad method. The belt was a pain in the backside, it often slipped and did not seem to distribute the heat evenly. The pad was great but expensive (got it from boots back then). Today i use a 20w vivarium heat mat. They are designed for reptile vivariums...

    turbo with solids?

Yes black tea obviously (no milk and sugar ) The more tea bags you use the more tannin goes in. I have never used more than 2 in a 5 litre brew. With the bramley i wash it then chop it up and throw it in. Most if not all juices are made from desert apples so adding a...

    turbo with solids?

I often chop up a bramley and throw it in. This definitely adds to the taste. I use 2 tea bags in half a small mug of water for tannin which occurs naturally in "proper" cider apples but is lacking in cider made from juice concentrate. Fruity tea bags may work - depending on the fruit used...

Supermarket Juice Wine How To guide and Recipes.

I did this for my very first attempt at a wow. I filled a demijohn with RGJ from concentrate and fermented it out. The result was truly bland. I ended up blending it with other wine to use it up.

    Can i save it?

If the above doesn't work well some other thoughts; For individual bottles you could let it drip through a paper filter in a funnel. I use the cheap thin filter papers to protect the thicker expensive filter pads in my vinbrite. Coffee filter pads would do just as well i suspect...

    Can i save it?

ok so probably a little overdone on the priming, somehow i always seem to manage to prime to little. You cant de-cabonate without releasing the gas which as i understand it is causing the problem. That being the case the only practical option is to release the gas as slowly as possible...

    Can i save it?

Where are you storing them ? When i finish a cider primary ferment i fill the bottles and add sugar to get the secondary fermentation going and leave them inside for a week. I then put them outside in the garage (or garden under cover) where its nice and cold. They clear over time and the...

So what else do home brewers do?

Another guitarist here, play lefty acoustic 99% of the time with the occasional forage into electric. Built my own valve amp from a kit Se-5a from ampmaker. Still haven't made the case for it yet though and that was over a year ago :? Also been into growing tropical plants for years...

    Degassing Kit Wine

This is a new one on me, I have never ever knowingly degassed wine or heard of it before. Never had a problem with clearing or fizzy wine either. Just checked my Boots beginners book of home wine making i bought back in 1982. The only reference i can find in it states; "When...

    Winebuddy cabernet sauvinon tips required

That may have been me :) I have made several of the Cab Sav and Merlot kits and the results for me at least were not what i expected. i found them both a bit thin so add 4 litres sainsburys reg grape juice (£2.50) in place of water. To me this helps improve the taste significantly but of...

    Best cider kit please

Maybe not the best but a good staple is the brewbuddy cider kit - brewed short to the 32 pint recipe Bottle it and leave it for 6 week or so before drinking and its surprisingly good for the price. Currently £10.50 as tesco direct - click and collect is my friend :D...

Supermarket Juice Wine How To guide and Recipes.

i suspect it will be fine but if in doubt i would get a mug and put an inch of warm water in the bottom then add a spoonful of yeast with a spoonful of sugar if it starts to froth readily after a while put the lot in the brew, not forgetting to sterilise the mug beforehand of course...

    Grape Juice for WOW

Hello, white grape juice seems to becoming rather extinct - at least locally to me. Red grape juice seems much easier to find both pressed and from concentrate.. I get it from Sainsbury's this one from concentrate is usually a good price...
