    Refractometer scale. V %/%

Thanks. But %v/v "potential alchohol" isn't brix or SG is it? I need to get from %v/v "potential alchohol" to either brix or sg. I think. Sent from my ONEPLUS A3003 using Tapatalk

    Refractometer scale. V %/%

Hi all, My lovely wife bought me a refractometer on her own intuition. Probably after too many instances of guests asking "how strong is this beer" when they start to feel a bit squiffy and my reply being "No idea mate. I don't measure. Tastes good tho dunnit. Hic." The problem is the scale on...

    Bbq

Charcoal. As said above, charcoal is a BBQ, gas is an outdoor oven. Specifically I use restaurant grade charcoal (https://www.coals2u.co.uk/restaurant-charcoal-1). The lumps are HUGE and they burn for ages. Last year I used 60kg of charcoal but then I did cook a whole pig (55 kg - picture...

a bit adventourous but i'll give it a go- LAGER from scratch

If you want a more descriptive recipe than just "pilsner + Saaz" have a look at this one. Looks yummy and is on my hit list. http://brulosophy.com/recipes/may-the-schwarzbier-with-you/ Here's the quantities for my basic pils...

a bit adventourous but i'll give it a go- LAGER from scratch

Here's a good method. I've had about 65 litres so far from this method over 4 batches. 5th batch going now. http://brulosophy.com/methods/lager-method/ As for recipe... My favourite so far is just pilsner malt and Saaz hops. Sent from my ONEPLUS A3003 using Tapatalk

    Adding geletine after fermentation

Not that one. It is a pils. Fermented with w34/70 following the brulosophy.com quick lager method. So not traditionally lagered. I have had some success at dry hopping and fining with gelatine. But it was a bit haphazard and so not sure how to repeat. Sent from my ONEPLUS A3003 using Tapatalk

    Adding geletine after fermentation

http://brulosophy.com/2015/01/05/the-gelatin-effect-exbeeriment-results/ I gelatin my beers. Except the dark ones. With gelatine I can get grain to glass in 2 weeks and have super clear beer. Using a corny keg mind, not natural carbonation. Sent from my ONEPLUS A3003 using Tapatalk

    Controlling 12v pumps

If the pumps are direct drive and not mag drive then restricting the flow will knacker them fairly quickly. The PWM controller you posted is a reliable alternative. You will probably need to start the pump on higher speed then throttle it back otherwise they can stall. The variable voltage idea...

    Recirculation mash and brew efficiency

1044 in the fermenter. Significant increase in efficiency. I'll have to do some more with this set up to work out the numbers. Sent from my ONEPLUS A3003 using Tapatalk

    Recirculation mash and brew efficiency

I use a biab ace boiler set up and yesterday I rigged up a little solar pump with a PWM modulator (the kind used by people making stir plates) and a PID box I made years ago for sous vide cooking. It's very heath robinson, but it worked for me. The good things... 1. Temperature control was...

    lagering?

I'm trying this method for my first lager. http://brulosophy.com/methods/lager-method/ A Czech pilsner recipe. It's 4 days in at 12°c and the airlock is still going nuts. Will take a gravity reading tomorrow to decide if it's time to ramp up the temp. I should maybe do a more traditional...

Smaller fermenter for brew fridge with ice compartment

Hello, I have been given a free fridge but it has a dreaded ice compartment meaning my fermenters don't fit. My choice is to sell this and buy another fridge (which sounds like too much hassle) , or get some smaller fermenters. I usually brew between 15 and 18 litre batches so smaller...

AG number 2 tastes of bananas.

It's been in the bottle for 4 weeks but as I say, 5 weeks in the fermenter. The yeast was safbrew t58. It's hard to say how warm it got as I was away a fair bit, but there was a heatwave so it wouldn't surprise me if the temp in the garage got to 24 or so give the outside got to 28 degrees...

AG number 2 tastes of bananas.

Hello all. Long time lurker and relatively new brewer here. My second AG brew was a Belgian Blond based on the recipe in Greg Hughes' book. It has come out tasting heavily of banana. Not a hint of fruityness. This is a hit of banana like supping on neat banana essence. A bit of reading...
