Any way to "accurately" estimate end alcohol levels without hydrometer?

Looks like about 940g of sugar. Using the Brewhaus calculator, this comes out at 12.3%. This assumes you ferment all the sugar, and is based on a total volume of 4.5l

    How to make Turbo Cider.

I only use one teaspoon per 500ml, and it has plenty of fizz. My recipes use apple juice and Lowicz (no preservatives in either)

    Apple and raspberry TC

@johncrobinson Some yeast packets do come with added artificial sweeteners

    Costa Coffee.

It is good to see that Costa are investigating the franchise. Blaming Costa is like blaming a pub chain because one landlord is an ******.

    Show us your label designs

Beerlabelizer prints, but I don't know how the costs match with what you are currently paying. They have also introduced rear labels.

Brewnight: Strawberry and Lime Turbo cider

I do add a few litres of water, but that's to reduce the final ABV. I use Youngs cider yeast and haven't had any problems. If the smell is going, I wouldn't worry about it

Brewnight: Strawberry and Lime Turbo cider

What temperature are you fermenting at? I find mine likes around 19C. Currently, the air temperature here is 25-27, so too warm (in my experience)

Not a chance - I like my "bits" exactly where nature intended them

    Bulk buying oxy powder

I got 25kg from eBay (ryeoil) £48 delivered. Rebagged into 1kg ziplocks. The wife uses it in the washing machine too

    Kegerator fridge help!

Something like this should only be used AFTER a regulator. These are not rated for the pressure inside a CO2 tank which will be several hundred PSI

    Kegerator fridge help!

The third wire could be an earth wire, so connecting all three together could result in a flash and some smoke! Generally, there is a live feed, and a return to the compressor - in my experience the brown and black wires. Green/green-yellow is normally earth, and blue is normally neutral. Most...

    Fridge recommendations

I drilled mine at the side, with a cable gland for sealing. As you said, the evaporator is at the rear, not the side.

    Turbo cider.

I use 4 X 400ml bottles, no extra sugar added. 15l apple juice, topped up to 20l with water. Comes out around 9% if memory serves me right

    Fermentation fridge newbie question

Just bought a 600mm fridge from eBay for £15. Lots of room for 25l FV. I was more concerned getting one without a big shelf at the bottom (where the compressor fits) - I can fit a FV with airlock as it only has a "half shelf". BTW, the one I bought wouldn't go down below 10c, so I just bypassed...

    Turbo cider.

Most people use Locwicz syrup for flavouring. It has a high sugar content and no preservatives. I add mine during fermentation, not afterwards, though. If you use afterwards, remember the sugar will increase the alcohol content, and could cause over carbonation if left to second ferment

    Tropical Sun strawberry syrup

It list preservatives in its ingredient list, which may inhibit the yeast.

Lidl apple juice is 88p for 1.5ltr and works well in TC

    Hangover beer mistakes

That wasn't their findings, and they included blood tests for hydration levels; "Many people believe that we feel hung-over because we're severely dehydrated after a night on the booze. But the twins' findings, which involved urinating into flasks and then having blood tests to measure hydration...

    Hangover beer mistakes

Watched a TV programme with those 2 twin doctors. One drank alcohol and the other drank soft drinks. They collected their urine(!) and compared "output". No difference between them. They said the hangovers are caused by the breaking down of alcohol and the chemicals produced, not dehydration
