    Ive not used an airlock in 200 brews no problems, just leave metal lid loose on my milk churn it's heavy enough to close up any gaps but light enough to vent gas

    I put my fermentation vessel into a larger plastic bucket with about 40 litres of water in it and thats cools it down in about an hour. Chillers sound stupid extravagant i never used one becuase was worried about leaks and the general palavour.

    Im worried now that i only did a half hour boil last week for my stout and ate the crispy skin off my chicken dinner on sunday. Is a longer boil needed for these nitro chemicals. I aint boiling my chickens though

    V interesting about separate steep of roasted barley when I make stout I never get the ash like dry roast flavour of G. Was it at 80c ? Enzymes denatured so just to extract flavour then, why not a cold steep.

    Zapiain cider made since 1596 which might explain the barnyard aroma but I'm loving it.
