Brewing mistakes you really wish you'd avoided...

A failed element on a Burco boiler that also tripped the power to the house, I ended up transferring to my plastic HLT and doing the boil that way

    Water treatment calculator

I've just put my numbers (online United Utilities average values) into the homebrewforum water calculator, and it is showing that I don't need to add any CRS (for bitters & pale ale's) However when I transfer the results into brewfather its showing the PH at 5.48, do I add some lactic acid to...

    Sonoma clone - IBU's ?

I'm looking at doing a clone of Sonoma from Track Brewing in Manchester, I've got the ingredients pretty much sorted (I hope !) but does anybody know the IBU's ? Its described as having a soft, pithy bitterness finish, which I would agree with. Thanks

Stella SMASH Clone Water Calculation Check

As this is your first all grain I would recommend forgetting about water chemistry for now and just do a very simple and cheap recipe, so that you can work out your water losses and efficiencies. If the worst case scenario happens and you have to write it off you haven't lost much. I very much...

I'm going to try re-using my yeast

I have reused the slurry by decanting into a jar and then pitching it again on brew day quite a few times. I have never done pitching straight onto the trub, I always assumed the fermenter should be sanitised after every use, is that not the case ?

    Expat Returns

I can't help with the cube I'm afraid, my preferred online retailer is Get'er'Brewed, the prices are great. https://www.geterbrewed.com/

Liam Gallagher would rather use a wheelchair and live with pain than have an operation.

That was the gist of my comment. He won't bear the pain and use a wheelchair, when the real pain starts he'll be getting the operation done

Drilling through the top of a fridge

It's not always safe to drill through the side walls, my understanding is that different manufacturers will run the coolant lines in the side walls and some don't, if this is the same for the top I don't know, but I would start by removing the lid and investigate from there.

    DIY cheapest Yoghurt?

I'm having a go at this now. First batch was definitely yoghurt but quite runny Second batch I appear to have made ricotta (too hot and too long; I think!) I'm utilising my second fermentation fridge Looking at google, there seems to be many ways to make this. I'm going for Heat the milk...

Moving from Lactic acid to acidulated malt

Thanks for the swift reply, I have added it to my recipe in brewfather software and to get to 5.2PH it's coming out at 90g in a 21 litre batch. I did read that it will lighten the beer ( I'm assuming that means colour?) I don't know why I haven't tried this ages ago !

Moving from Lactic acid to acidulated malt

I buy my grains from GEB made up as a custom grain kit and I'm looking at adding acidulated malt to most of my recipes instead of using lactic acid additions. Should I be aware of any major changes to my brew day or beer, from making this change? I predominately make best bitters and to a...
