    Oxygen suckback during cold-crashing

Around 2 hours to collect 10 litres of co2 during active fermentation, or use a gas cylinder as suggested by @the baron above. Reckon my vinotainer is easier to use than a balloon though, it has a tap which is turn on and offable.

    Oxygen suckback during cold-crashing

Intrigued by this, I've just replaced the airlock with a 10 litre vinotainer to see how long it takes to inflate. Beer is a 1.044 og Patersbier 24 hours into fermentation. More an experiment really as never noticed a problem, but then I've never brewed a NEIPA. It is something I've been thinking...

All in one brewing system buyers guide 2019

Looks a nice bit of kit, I don't need one, having a lower tech approach to brewing but having watched a few of your videos your budget market recommendation looks very good, if I was just starting out, definitely what I'd go for.

Using a plethera of British style hops in what?

I can't remember if I dry hopped and can't find any records but I was once given a big bag of target and put them all in an IPA which turned out rather good. Might have to revisit this now that you remind me of it.

Mashing & Boiling - longer vs shorter times

Interesting what @MmmBeer said above about a particular batch of grain needing a longer boil to avoid DMS. Seems like there are a few of us doing shorter boils and getting away with it but maybe one day we will get caught out? I will need to check but I'm sure in Ron Pattisons book "War" it...

No chill - leave the hops in boiler?

If I was doing your linked recipe using no chill, I would delay the 15 minute addition until about 5 mins before flame out then wait for it to cool below 80 before adding the zero minute additions, then leave all the hops in overnight until transfer to fermenter. If running through a brew...

Mashing & Boiling - longer vs shorter times

I've also reduced my boils to 45ish minutes (sometimes 30) and not noticed a difference. Still mash around 60 minutes though plus however long it takes to get to mash out temp.

    Campervans

Recently got rid of my car as I can walk to work now, plan to replace it with a small campervan as it's just usually me and the wife now. We hired a large camper last year for a week in Scotland, great fun and something I'd always wanted to try but did make me reconsider that a smaller one would...

    Fermentation Temperature Stabilisation System (FTSS)

Smaller footprint for one thing, more portable, and more effective to get temperature down last few degrees to pitching temperature. Also it looks a lot better I've been using a fridge and I find it pretty smelly when used at fermentation temperatures, this will fit in better than another...

    Fermentation Temperature Stabilisation System (FTSS)

@Norfolk79 do you know roughly what size coolbox your using?, my wife didn't sound keen on holes being drilled in the existing one so I may need to source a new one.

    Fermentation Temperature Stabilisation System (FTSS)

I intend to start using it with a coolbox containing iced water, later I may rig up up something so that the water source is kept cool within my kegorator. I'm just brewing 23 litre batches.

Glycol Dangerous - Use Cheap vodka instead for chilling?

can't think why not, I like the idea, what sort of size bottle are you thinking of? And material? I believe some plastics will leach into the alcohol, even food safe ones, probably same consideration for glycol

    Fermentation Temperature Stabilisation System (FTSS)

Did try and put a link up with original post but failed, think I've got it now. "FTSs² Chilling & Heating | 7 gal Brew Bucket" https://www.themaltmiller.co.uk/product/ftss%c2%b2-chilling-heating-7-gal-chronical/ Edit: 3rd time lucky?

    Fermentation Temperature Stabilisation System (FTSS)

Just seen that there is a version 2 of this available now that incorporates both heating and cooling FTSS2 for SS brew master fermenters I looked into this before but at that time you could either pump chilled water or warm water around the system whereas the version 2 switches on the pump for...

Do you make the same beer all the time, or something different

Wasn't sure which way to vote as have mainly brewed something different in the past but repeated a few beers that I particularly like, I'm aiming to come up with a shortlist of beers I really like to brew repeatedly then chuck in the odd experimental brew now and again.

    Warm weather brew ideas?

Ha Ha, not quite, it's pretty tatty looking, but I picked it up on on eBay not realising quite how large it was, was in the house for months, as was I (Dogs house) but I've now made room in the garage for it and it's excellent for kegs. Edit: can't seem to post photos any more, is that a known...

    Warm weather brew ideas?

Heat sink through the floor won't work with my fermenter (on legs), nice idea though, Mrs has promised me a fridge for it (about 2 years ago) so maybe if I leave it in awkward places around the house, burping out CO2 I will get my second fridge. Meanwhile I'm enjoying cool beer from fridge no 1...

    Warm weather brew ideas?

I've done no chill in a cube for the last few brews but tonight's brew, session IPA had a lot of late hops so I used the immersion chiller to get quickly below 80, added the 0 minute hops, then left it the pan ,cling film wrapped to cool overnight, hopefully will be at pitch temperature when I...
