hops in clear plastic sealed bags

well I thought I was getting some knowing looks at university with it in my bag.... It certainly had that kind of hoppy smell about it, I'll have to try the foil packs next time to make a comparison. the pack was dated July 2015 so they must have been fine.... I threw them in loose...

hops in clear plastic sealed bags

I'm unsure how they should smell, taste or look but the kitchen now does smell very nice. I've put roughly 10g of 'hop tea' (done in my wives fav' tea pot of course...) and 10g of dry hop in to each of the three kits I have on the go. Which besides from making them all taste a bit similar to...

hops in clear plastic sealed bags

I've just bought some goldings in a clear plastic bag which isn't vacume packed as I would expect them to be.. Maybe its filled with argon or something.. Or just air. Should I expect these to be of lower quality than the ones in silver foil packets? http://s73.photobucket.com/albums/i228/ ...

    TC with ale yeast

I'm not expecting anything miraculous, maybe a mess in the kitchen having forgot to put the DJ in an empty pan , but im sure it'll be a bit different. I may have been a little drunk when I mixed it all together on a whim....

    TC with ale yeast

Champagne sounds good... I'm not expecting anything great but im sure I'll pitch the yeast in to a bigger one. I may have pitched too much this time, as its bubbling away already

    TC with ale yeast

I've just mixed 4L of Tesco juice in too a 5L water bottle and some ale yeast from a local brewery. I plan to add a litre of blueberry or cherry juice which are my usual favourites. OG-1.045 I'm hoping it'll be a little less dry than the usual wine yeast. If it looks promising in a month or...

Tesco apple juice 85p for 4 litres

I would expect it to go well under 1.000, all my TC's have done in the past. If its still cloudy that suggests the yeast is still active, when its finished the yeast will drop out and leave you with a clear cider. Have you read the "how too" guide in the wine and cider section?

    Demijohn v Fermentor

When you poured in to the DJ could you have transfered more yeast / nutrients which had settled at the bottom of the primary?

Four cans two brews, with some live brewery yeast

kit#3 (best bitter, dark dme & sugar) is now done. And having cranked the heating up in the kitchen its now in the back garden in a darkish coldish spot. I've now got over a hundred bottles thanks to Graysalchemy kindly donating his unrequited stock but having counted my bottle caps im on a...

    is this a suitable polypin?

I noticed your beer engine thread, It should make a nice little bar if you can get four pins on the go, you'll have to drink fast though

All Grain Home Brew System complete

    Swing top bottles

I like swing top bottles but I can't justify spending near enough £40 on a single brew length, that's a hell of alot of bottle caps. I'll keep buying 3 bottles of heinekin every time I go in to asda though.. Which probably works out more expensive

    Coopers Stout krausen, newby question

Put an old towel under the fv before you pitch the yeast, or one of those large flexible plastic tubs. I made mine up to 20L and didn't have any issue with the coopers stout, but it did get right up to the lid.

    is this a suitable polypin?

the camping one I have makes the water taste like plastic, so not something you really want in your beer

    Turbo cider no.2

That strikes me as a lot of tannin and pect', I haven't done a large batch yet though, so it very well could be spot on! I've got a big batch due soon so I'll keep an eye on the thread. Don't worry about the red colour too much, the colour will fade as the yeast ferments.

    Whiskey or Vodka Kits

Does anybody sell a whiskey essence / flavoring for 23L ? I like the odd whiskey and coke or lemonade but the flavorings don't seem so cheap. I keep meaning to throw a couple of DJ of wash on to some whiskey barrel chunks but so far its just all talk

    Whiskey or Vodka Kits

What comes in the box? It seems expensive as the alcotech 23% yeast is only a fiver and comes with liquid carbon.

I THINK MY BREW HAS GONE BAD........

Every time you feel impatient buy a fv or demijohn and start something else. Wow wines are easy to make and interesting to watch :D

I THINK MY BREW HAS GONE BAD........

I Have heard some thought regarding co2(an acid) desolving in the moisture within your nose and smelling vinegary. I'm unsure about the science but you really shouldn't worry. Leave the lid shut for another 7 days and take a sample. Test with a hydrometer and have a taste from the trial jar...
