Hi Guys,

Since my last post, i think my brew has gone bad!!!! after o nly 3 days the wort has stopped bubbling completely, and when i push down on the fermenting lid, and have a sniff at the lock, there is a vinegar smell from it?

I have read that the yeast can go dorment if the temprature is low? but its steady at about 19 to 20 deg.

Any help would be appreciated thanks.

Vinegar is not a promising fragrance.
Do you have any way to remove a sample without risking further infections? I have to say, quite a few of my bres have smelled really quite nasty and then turned out nice once the yeast has finished up, so all may not be lost.
Can you get a picture uploaded? A picture of the surface of the beer can sometimes help identify infections etc.
Good luck!

I Have heard some thought regarding co2(an acid) desolving in the moisture within your nose and smelling vinegary.

I'm unsure about the science but you really shouldn't worry. Leave the lid shut for another 7 days and take a sample. Test with a hydrometer and have a taste from the trial jar, it'll probably be fine :)

Don't rush anything in brewing, let the yeast take it's time to do it's job, it will make a big improvement to the beer.

2 weeks in the fermenter than 3 - 4 weeks in the keg before you start drinking it. I know you won't be able to wait 3 - 4 weeks, but the longer you leave it the better it will get.

Best of luck!

I use a sterile turkey baster for drawing a sample into a sample jar.
