    Mild v Bitter brewing times.

A good option is to ferment in a cool/steady temperature area of the house and use a fish tank heater and trug as a water bath. Its not an ideal control method, but its more predictable.

Coffee a new adventure for me

"these beer kits look cheap, I'll buy one and then google how to do it...." 12 months later your surrounded by thousands of pounds worth of shiney toys, and complaining about the stuff you used to enjoy being crap... don't you just love forums

    New Hoppy Youngs kits.

I'm sure You would need more than 3kg of malt extract to make 40pints of 6.5% beer (as I see at least one of them is), so some extra sugars must have been used to bulk it up? I wouldn't write them off for the alone. :wha:

PoundPub", a new watering hole opening in Stockton-on-Tees

Competition for weatherspoons and student bars, who already sell cheap booze! 8am opening times are horrific though, get them in for a pound coffee and tea cake then keep your punters in until they are broke or broken.

    My new bar

You could always use a polypin with a handpull and a couple of kegs with the taps you have. I don't see the issue with the branded taps, the Stella one is rather nice looking

    TC with ale yeast

Many thanks! I've picked up another 4L for the starter, Still 4L for £1 at Tesco in gorton... A nagging in my ear keeps telling me "put it back!" when I fill the trolley :wha: . Considering i don't ever buy cider then 50L is probably enough of the stuff for this year... besides, i've found...

What ABV did you get from turbo yeast ? ? ?

Roughly 4.5L (glass DJ) minus the volume of lentles which won't be much. So 11-12%, I may have enough headspace for another 200g of sugar if the yeast can handle it.. Which would bring it up to about 14% I think. im so far impressed with how well its fermented.

    TC with ale yeast

Fermented out to 1.000 and it tastes rather bloody dry! I'll leave it another week and bottle. Old Rosie yeast from a bottle of ga's cider is fermenting away in a 500ml bottle full of apple juice. How much yeast should I have for a 25L batch?

    Growing Hops

I've had a look on their facebook page, and it appears to be fuggle seeds that they are giving away "In 1999 we started Hops in a Box and our hops are now dispatched nationwide for decoration." http://www.hopsinabox.co.uk/ I dont suppose that means they cant be used, just that you may not 100%...

Growing hops "oop north" in Lancashire

I'm thinking I may have missed the boat on planting as well, I keep trying to sneak them in to the weeks budget, "maybe next month" :? . I've been asking about my allotment for anybody who may have an unwanted plant or some cuttings but no luck!

Tetely cask in one of my local spoons pubs

What ABV did you get from turbo yeast ? ? ?

Unsure which goodies are required, but google confirms that it can work well. Edit: mixed some up in a demi' as a test, its been happily fermenting all night, I was a bit light on sugar so another 150 grams or so to add today. Also need to warm it up with a bucket and fish tank heater or something

    Beer Duty down by 1p

Stopping the costs from increasing can only be a good thing for our booming (micro)brewery industry

What ABV did you get from turbo yeast ? ? ?

My suggestion is specific to turbo yeast, I'll be giving that one a go though.. Just need the sugar :)

What ABV did you get from turbo yeast ? ? ?

I have heard that best result from turbo yeasts come from splitting the yeast, sugar and water in to two equal batches. To reduce the temperature creeping up during fermentation. I haven't tested this, but plan too.
