I agree with pop bottles, for white wows and kits I use 1L lucasada bottles and any 500ml pet bottles, its also easy to carbonate the wine with priming sugar if you don't mind a little bit of sediment at the bottom of the bottles.
Glass demo johns then bottles for anything longterm.
Its a lot of ingredients to risk as a first brew, it looks good but I would recommend you get something else on first as a trial run... One of the good 2 can / all malt kits would be an excellent start.
Oh yes, there is plenty of time for that... i'm sure it'll turn out stunning after 10 years in the bottle.
And the pictures at last!!
The electric ring looks almost gaslike... sadly not!
I cooled it in the kitchen sink and filtered out the hops some how, not quite sure how now though...
It fermented down to about 1.020 and stopped, so I crash cooled for a couple of weeks and racked it in to a 1.75L coke bottle with some headroom which I squeezed out.
Lid is on firm and its in the warm whilst being checked most days, looks to be fermenting or co2 is dropping out of suspension...
Well done fella, i hope what they offer you is what you need!
I juggled agency work and supporting kids for a long while and it eventually just dosn't stack up.
The kids are with their grandparents this weekend so may be able to squeeze in a couple on the Saturday, however i belive the wife was organising a family cinema trip :-/.
the suggestion has been made, its out of my hands now
Can you offer any more detail? Do you have a beer kit you wish to increase the abv of ? How strong would you like it to be?
The simple answer is add more sugar, but that isn't the best method.
Welcome, interesting to read your experiences re: sanitation. We must all know that we go a bit Ott with sanitising when we seriously think about it.
:)
Don't chuck anything unless its been sat in a bottle at least a year if not more, I threw about 15 pints away from an early attempt then found a single bottle 6months later and it was excellent!
Give it plenty of time to ferment, much longer than the instructions say, and then plenty of time in...
Yes you are correct as to when you take the reading, once you add extra water you can calculate how much it would dilute the final abv. So long as you know how much water you add. Its not an exact science at this level, but we can get close enough to know what'll make you fall over after a...
Where do I sign?
As a return I would expect some cider if I was helping to produce it, but mostly for the low cost you suggest it would be for an experience and a bit of fun... And a big summer cider party / festival :-D
If you are all swapping bottles then money shouldn't need to change hands at all? Local homebrewers may be more cost effective than posting multiple bottles out.
Would a lower batch / lower cost option be one of those beer guns for use with co2 and a keg.
A keg full of white wine is firmly on my 'to do list', removing the sediment from the bottles of sparkling wine I have made has been a pain in the arse so far.
Wilko are good when they have a sale on, otherwise try the local brew shop. i tend to visit the Stockport one or julies homebrew shop near Manchester city football ground. Fermenters are roughly the same price everywhere as are kits.
I thought the banana flavor in beer came from the yeast used rather than real fruit.
I would have a go at a couple of banana wines and forget the beer.
