Using a dishwasher to wash bottles

Hello, I'm sat here procrastinating instead of doing my dissertation work and have just had a flash of inspiration. What are the pros and cons of using a dishwasher to wash bottles out instead of doing it one by one in the sink or even rinsing the bottles with sanitising fluid in the sink and...

where's all the AG brewers gone

I've long been interested in brewing my own beer and cider. I first started off brewing Turbo Cider as it was a cheap way of my friends and I getting hammered. However, I have always had the intention of brewing beer to start with and I feel that if it wasn't for trying to get pissed on the...

    AG#3 Chocolate Vanilla Stout

I felt I should probably update this thread after Goatreich posted up a similar brewday. I first tasted the beer after three weeks and although it was drinkable it certainly tasted young. There was very little head too. Fast forward 10 weeks later and it tastes much more refined, it has more...

    AG#2 Death by Chocolate Stout

Just checked my book of home brew and what I posted above is correct. I didn't crash cool the wort and I primed each two litre bottle (I should really invest in some glass bottles) with a tea spoon of sugar. James PS I borrowed the recipe off somebody else but adapted it a little so all the...

    AG#2 Death by Chocolate Stout

I seem to think it was ready after three weeks to a month but tasted quite young. Mine has been bottled around 12 - 14 weeks and now it's really starting to taste good.

    AG#2 Death by Chocolate Stout

I'm in work at the moment, I'll check my brewing log book when I get home (I date everything lol) and I'll get back to you. I'm in the Rhondda by the way :) James

    AG#2 Death by Chocolate Stout

It's not in your face chocolatey, it's quite subtle. The vanilla comes into play after the pint goes down, it's hard to explain but it's really quite rewarding when all the different flavours start showing themselves. James

    AG#2 Death by Chocolate Stout

Just found this. I've got 4 litres left of mine. It definitely improves with age and it really is bitter to start with. I've noticed you use the home brew shop in Cardiff; whereabouts are you? It's a good brew! I'm really impressed with mine. James

    THBF tankard on BBC facebook

Out of interest where to? I know the South Wales valleys (I live in the Rhondda) were completely dry on Sundays once upon a time but it seems to be just about the only pass time around here with the local youths (and stealing cars). James - a disgruntled 23yr old

    Hangover Cures

Drink a pint if water when you get in and take another to bed. On waking drink one or two pints of water and then I'm off for a run; usually something small like a three miler. If its severe then bacon and egg sandwhich with a strong coffee and potter about most of the day avoiding strenuous...

Converted a few people at the weekend.

Same here. I had family over last weekend, much the same story. After passing round a couple of samples of my beer everybody settled on drinking my chocolate vanilla stout. I'm down to 2L from 24L of which I've drunk roughly 2L. Gutted isn't the word :o James

    AG#3 Chocolate Vanilla Stout

I'm going to bottle the beer this afternoon and probably open it Christmas day. The flavouring is incredible. There's a sort of coffeeish taste along with a subtle chocolate undertone which leaves a more prominent vanilla after taste as the beer slides down. I am impressed! This has to be the...

    AG#3 Chocolate Vanilla Stout

I was shattered when I posted the thread last night and copied and pasted it this morning. I meant when your running the wort out of the msh tun and checking the gravity as you're going along. Does that make more sense? It's been a long day lol James

    AG#3 Chocolate Vanilla Stout

I posted this over on Jims last night but thought I'd post it here too. If it's an issue feel free to delete :thumb: Hello! I was feeling particularly adventurous this week so decided to have a shunt at a chocolate vanilla stout. I found the recipe on here but I'll list it below. It went...

    Hello from South Wales.

Rhondda valleys here. Only been at this brewing lark since September but I've caught the bug. Where about are you? James

    AG Brew Buddy needed

I'm way out of your distance but thought I'd add my 2p. I was a little worried about **** ups when it came to AG brewing. After a couple of days of looking about and reading the tutorials I thought balls to it, built my equipment and ordered some grain, hops and yeast. On my first brew my boiler...

    AG#2 Nice n Easy Lager

Hello all, I brewed this on Thursday but as I was in a bit of a rush I forgot to take more pictures. Anyway it's a rather easy Lager and I found the ingredients on this forum. Anyway it was easy, no cocks ups and it's currently sat in the fermenter fermenting away. Started 0948 Finished 1508...

    AG1 A Hoegaarden esque beer

Just remembered about this thread. I've made a start on the beer and it's wonderful (if I do say so myself). It's light, got a good head, the correct colour and it is really citussy(?). Each pint is refreshing and for a first go at all grain brewing I'm impressed. So impressed I've ordered some...

    Hydrometer and sparge confusion

I'll have a go at the conversion utility in a bit. Mine only goes as far as 30c :(

    Hydrometer and sparge confusion

I'll keep a bucket of ice water next to me next time to cook the wort quickly to 20c. That's probably easier haha James
