The easiest and most effective method I have found is to take a multivitamin tablet with plenty of water before bed and the same again in the morning. Also if you've been at the pub all day, break it up with a meal and don't continue drinking into the evening when you get back, just have water. Best to have a few drinks, eat, then just drink water.

I like the idea of the milk thistle, I guess that's for the liver. Might pick up some of that.

Can't tell you my source, but believe me this works medically

1. Before you start drinking at all take a Milk Thistle tablet

2. Before bed, pint of water, an antacid (Zantac) and one 200mg Ibufrofen tablet. Another Milk Thistle

3. In the Morning, pint of water, 2 Paracetomol 500mg, Milk Thistle, Vitamin B tablet and greasy breakfast

You absolutely MUST avoid

- acidic foods, such as orange juice, or juicy fruits
- dairy products

Couple of hours after breakfast have a multivitamin tablet with a banana and more water

Light lunch, like a chicken salad with more water, you'll be well back on track by them.

Theres a bit of science behind this which I wont bore you with, give it a try and tell me how you get on.

Interesting stuff... Next time I'll omit the orange juice!

Indeed... I thought the vit C in orange juice might actually be beneficial.

I'll break this down a bit

Milk Thistle - detoxifies the liver

Water - alcohol is diuretic, water rehydrates

Zantac - when you consume alcohol the stomach reacts by producing a chemical to detoxify the alcohol. As you consume more and more then the body starts to overcompensate as it cant keep up. You need this chemical when you are drinking but you need it stop when you stop. Zantac does this job for you (PN this is the main reason for hangover)

Ibuprofen - don't understand this one but its effective

Paracetomol in the morning - obvious really

Vit B tablet - boost energy levels in away that is gentle on the stomach unlike caffeine or high energy sports drink which typically contain Vit C

Why not Vit C - its a an acid, fruit juice is acidic - all that chemical stuff going on in your stomach will only be agrrovated by its consumption and make you feel worse

Why not Dairy - never really that good for a dodgy stomach

Why a greasy breakfast - the fat absorbs a lot of those dodgy chemicals left over in the stomach helping you recover quickly.

PS the ultimate 'isotonic' drink is water.

Always have something like a litre juice bottle at the side of your bed filled with water or very weak juice, and refresh it every couple of days.

After a hard night on the beer I usually find that I have drunk three quarters of a litre by the morning.

If its a severe hangover then it has to be

Three toast, two fried eggs (sunny side up) , a large coffee and then back to bed for a couple more hours.

make sure the toast has way too much butter on it!

try the zantac and ibuprofen before bedtime as well

I am sat in a hot office in Lagos Nigeria trying to avoid going out in the hot sun. Not really got a hangover just feeling really really tired. All of my favourite hangover cures are not available here in this uncivilised place. You can't find a greasy spoon cafe here for love nor money. My favourite hangover cures depending on the type of hangover are

Cold chilli con carne from the night before on toast
Black pudding and bacon sarnie
can of juice relentless with a berrocca tablet in it
Tea lots and lots of tea
and of course a great big fry up

A modest breakfast of a madras and a couple of pints of breakfast beer usually does the trick for me :D

redbull (the cheap copy ones @ 32p not the rip off over a £1 ones) and plenty of cola (not together though) i know its crappy for you but it works

I can't believe nobody has proposed the ultimate hangover cure.

Barr's Irn Bru.

Glass bottles are best, any container will suffice, other brands will not.

Water when you are drinking. If its a heavy night then it helps to start matching the beers pint for pint with water.

Exercise really gets your blood going and seems to help. If i'm feeling up for it, as many situps as I can mange followed by berroca with several pints of water followed by a cold shower. Then its time for a massive fry up followed by a day in front of the TV. Maybe a bit of fresh air later when you're walking to pick up the indian takeaway. :thumb:

Drink a pint if water when you get in and take another to bed. On waking drink one or two pints of water and then I'm off for a run; usually something small like a three miler. If its severe then bacon and egg sandwhich with a strong coffee and potter about most of the day avoiding strenuous activities (and people) like the plague.

Makes your burps absolutely stink.

Good old classic fryup and a bottle of red rooster for me.

Firstly, while drinking make sure you take some water now and again (e.g. coke or alcohol free beer ever 3rd drink). Have a pint of water before you go to bed and have one by your bed for if you wake up during the night.

1) Lucazade Sport: hydrates you faster than water and gives you energy

2) Vitamin tablets: Replenish those lost vitamins and minerals

3) Diarrhea tablets: Replenish those lost salts

4) Breakfast: Fresh fruit with yoghurt and honey, again vitamins, neutriants, water (etc.) Its healthy and tastes nice.

5) Post Breakfast: grilled sausages and eggs, NO carbs. The protein increases your level of alterness and vitality. Carbs and fat make you feel drowsy, which is the opposit of what we are aiming for.

6) Go for a walk: The fresh air and movement increases the bodies metabolism and gets the blood flowing. This will help get those toxins out of your body and get the new neutriants to work faster. You will also burn off some of the beer calories and reduce that beer belly a little bit.

I sleep in as late as possible then have a large mug of coffee, give it a couple of hours then have beer :drink:

I tend to keep a few tins of 'V8' veg juice or 'Big Tom' in the fridge. A splash of tabasco sauce in a big glass of that with a couple of ibuprofen generally sorts me out.

My brother swears by the diarylite (?) sachets that re-hydrate you.

I heard on a first aid course that eating a banana before you go to bed or an hour before you start drinking is meant to help, cannot remember the exact reasons why, and since I don't really suffer hangovers I have not had a chance to find out. It was something to do with something slowly breaking down and converting into something else... It is 3:20 am so I am not really with it at the moment.

If I ever have felt bad in the past, sweet tea or Pepsi max have always done the trick

I second this. It is a miracle cure that should be prescribed on the NHS
