    Hazelwood’s Brewday Part 2

What's your secret for a trub free transfer @Hazelwood Brewery ? My wort is clear like that in the middle of transfer but the beginning and end are very trubby (if that's a word).

    Wot! No NEIPA? 😂

Small leak from the connection between the keg and the hand tap?

Could be a bit of damage to the o-ring on the beer post?

    Finings in a closed fermenter

So I put a half empty barrel of my pale ale in my brew fridge, set at -1C, for four days. This is what the beer looked like before (I took the pic looking down into the beer to exaggerate the "cloudiness". This is what it looks like after four days at -1C It is a bit clearer but there is still...

Low alcohol beer and how to brew advise required (Diabetes)

I think it's been said earlier in this thread, diabetics don't need low alcohol beers as it's the liver that metabolises alcohol not the pancreas. The main reason diabetics watch calories is to keep their weight under control. Diabetics need to control their carb intake not calories. I've given...

    Sparge methods

I don't have an AIO. I use a coolbox mash tun with my own (complicated) sparge mechanism that is used for recirculation during mash. This is the mash tun with my sparge thingy on top... And this is what it looks like under the lid with water gently showered onto the grain as the wort is...

    Finings in a closed fermenter

As it happens I have a pale ale just finishing carbonation today. I was planning on fining but will try cold crashing the carbonated beer for 2-3 days before conditioning and see how it comes out.

    Finings in a closed fermenter

Interesting @foxy . As I carbonate using priming sugar that creates yeast activity I guess cold crashing the carbonated beer down to -1C for a couple of days should clear the finished beer?

    Hazelwood’s Brewday Part 2

    An NEIPA perhaps? 😂

    Finings in a closed fermenter

I did consider using plastic parts but opted for stainless steel parts to get a good tight seal.

What are you drinking tonight 2024.

Yes, it's still a little young. Well pleased with the exercise in finings though 👍🏻

    Finings in a closed fermenter

Update. This is the end result of my first attempt at fining one of my beers.... Well pleased with that. 👍🏻

What are you drinking tonight 2024.

Talk about contrasts.... Last glass of the NEIPA I brewed in March.... ..to an APA (not so pale) that's the first of my beers to be fined... It's certainly clear. Tastes alright too. More "caramel" than I'm used to. Might have overdone the crystal malt. It'll get drunk.

    Kettle to FV transfer

Yes. I've done that for the last two brews and it does settle nicely. The thing is, despite my attempts at whirlpooling the trub insists on settling by the tap entry so as soon as I turn it on a plug of trub comes out into the FV. And even if I slow the flow as the kettle empties trub is drawn...

    Kettle to FV transfer

Up until now, at the end of the boil, I chill the wort to pitching temperature and leave it to stand and settle. Then, turn the kettle tap on and watch the wort with a good lump of trub run into my FV. The wort then clears until the last couple of litres that draws another lot of trub into the...

Kegland red carb cap - gas only?

…must be you 😂. I often have issues with the beer disconnect being difficult to fit a SS post but not the plastic. I suggest taking the pin out of the black disconnect (if you haven’t already) to confirm the body fits ok. If that’s ok it’s the pin probably a shade too long and bottoming out. I...

    Kegerator build

In my experience (pretty limited when it comes to drilling holes in fridges, 3 fridges and 6 holes) there is always one pipe in the side of a fridge and it's the thermostat sensor usually with electrical cables close by for the fridge light. ALWAYS disconnect from the mains (UNPLUG) and go...
