Quick one,
Any recommendations for a good (preferably cheap) PH tester,
I bought this one
However it doesn't work properly , won't always switch on, and now allways just displays 1.
Did I just get a dud or should I buy a more expensive one?
Ok so I am no expert.
However I will be doing similar in a month or 2 after my cider had aged a little more.
I am however keging mine afterwards so bottle bombs are not so much of an issue,
Here is some information I found, but as I said I am no expert and have not done it yet so cannot say...
Yes the vast majority of eBay.
I have this primary
Although I got it from a different seller for about £ 45
Seconderys where the only thing I didn't get from eBay, thanks to some top advice from this forum this is what I got...
Awesome tip, for some reason drip trays tend to be more expensive than I would expect,
Also yes they are all running from seconderys, I'm pretty happy with how this has turned out
Cheers
Clint is right I wouldn't worry about it untill at least 36-48 hours after pitching. They are different brews with different yeasts (probably) don't think that they will ferment to exactly the same schedule.
Things can be tricky in remote Scotland.
However I live in the highlands, I get my CO2 bottles from a company called west highland gas, pretty sure they don't service Aberdeen area however it demonstrates that there is always a demand for CO2 weather for pubs welding or something else.
I get...
Genrally speaking the smaller the dispense method the more it costs over time, bulbs more expensive than Soda stream, in turn more expensive than large bottle.
You also have to consider the faffing, once you have a big bottle set up it should last month's before you have to replace it...
You don't need to prime the keg (although some people do) if you are hooked up to a gas supply)
I prefer the set and forget method of carbing and serving.
Plenty of discussion on this if you use the search function.
Straight away or a few hours is going to make virtually no difference at all...
Yes try to get the hose all the way to the bottom so that it's not splashing and introducing oxygen
Yes but it will still be flat unless you force the carbonation, and the beer will improve with some extra time to condition.
I know it's hard to wait. But it will be a better drink if you do...
I fully understand and also don't want to bottle a couple of odd beers when I could just brew the correct amount.
I aim for post boil vol of 23L
Fermenting vol of 21L
In the keg 19L
Possibly I leave a bit more than I should in kettle and...
Yes this is what I have been doing also, was just wondering if anyone could confirm being a bit lazy wasn't going to be an issue.
Oh well, I'll keep on keeping on
Just a quick one.
For those thay have spigots/taps on plastic FVs do you take them off between uses to clean, or just leave them on and clean and sanitize in place.
Don't worry mate, when all this blows over, there will be plenty of cheap fridges and freezers, many were bought to stockpile food and I'm sure they will flood the market in a few months when they are no longer needed.
I'll start by saying i am no expert on PBs
However it would seem from a quick read around that they are not really ideal to be hooked up to a pressure system.
If it goes wrong it could be messy and dangerous.

Fridge cost me 200, most people in most places under normal circumstances can vastly reduce this cost by just getting a cheap one second hand.
Also already had all the kegs
Ball park figures here
2x flow controll taps 45
Stout tap 40
Long thanks...
I don't quite follow? The pressure barrel on top is reusable. Inside I have kegs (corny kegs) and yes they are also reusable, and very popular with homebrewers.
Feel free to ask more questions and I'll do my best to answer them as best as I can.
