    Sediment on the move.

Thanks to all for the replies. It is Geordie bitter and is poured from the old quart Bulmers cider bottles which I’ve been using regularly since 1969. And yes it could well be early bottling that’s causing the problem. I’ve always been a little trigger happy with that. Thanks for your advice...

    Sediment on the move.

Hi gang, Having a little trouble with pouring from bottle to jug. Uusing a kit yeast that comes with the tin I was losing about a quarter of a pint by way of the sediment or trub when coming to the end of a pour. Thinking it may have been because I was using a basic yeast I started using...

    Bottles

I guess I've been lucky over the years regarding bottles. Started kit brewing in 1968 (a year after legalisation) with 20 brown 2 pint Bulmers cider bottles. Aquired another 20 2 or 3 years later and have used the 40 for kit brewing continually ever since without ever breaking one. A rare...

    Bottle washers.

Was wondering if anyone knows how to come by the collar washers shown in the 'pic. They were used on the two pint Bulmer's cider bottles that are no longer used. I have about 4o bottles but unfortunately the only thing that ever needs replacing are the washers.

    Brew no. 4 stuck

Point taken. The reason I don't use the supplied yeast is that in his book John Palmer advised against it. I will now keep a couple of packs to make up to the 11gms required and give it a try.

    Brew no. 4 stuck

I buy Geordie bitter and enhancer from Tesco when it's on offer, usually £8/50 and £3/75 respectively. I always throw away the yeast provided and use Gervin from Ebay. It's a consistently good pint.

    hopping

Filtering the end of the siphon tube sounds a good idea. But how would the muslin cloth be secured on the end of the circular inflow?

    How much hops?

Hi, I've decided to try giving my Geordie bitter a hoppy taste by adding some dry leaf hops. The wort has been in a primary for a week now, and if fermentation is nearly over after ten days I was planning to add the hops to a secondary FV. My question is, how much hops to use from the 50gm...

    Bottle washers.

There are forum members on here who use the old pint/quart cider bottles with screw top caps as shown below. The red washers however eventually require replacing and my local home brew shop used to stock these. Unfortunately they no longer do so and I'm having a struggle to find an alternative...
