Just making my first batch and was about to add finings when I made up the powder and cold water mix the sour chemically smell coming of it was off putting. Is this normal? Makes me worried about tossing it in with my batch.

Went to local home supply shop but they didn't have what I ws looking for so ordered a little bottler online which should hopefully arrive tomorrow.
