Adding tap to fermenting bucket

I have just got a second vessel (same as my first, a 25litre plastic bucket from a youngs brew buddy kit)

The thought has come across me to add a tap to it to make bottling easier. With no evident location to add one and no instruction, I don't know if this is possible. Anyone tried it?

yep , my advice is put it as close to the bottom as possible (even if the spout of the tap is below the base when fitted , just turn it side ways when not using ) unlike me who fitted it so the bottom of the spout is flush with the base of the bucket , which means i have to tip the fv to get the last 5 odd bottles worth through the tap :x

ps use a wood drill bit , drill a small pilot hole then use a whole cutter or a wood flat bit , keep the size tight to avoid leaks

i fitted a little bottler on an fv just held the tap to the bottom edge then marked the top of the tap on the fv found centre point and drilled hole its as flush to the bottom as you can get just take your time when drilling as not to split the fv

So you don't think the curve of the vessel will lead to leaks.

No it wont. Plenty of people on here have little bottler taps on their fv's. :thumb:

If your not happy with DIY, then you can buy an FV with tap from Amazon, amongst others.

Beware of trying to fill bottles from a standard barrel tap though! Mine had a spout about the same size as my bottles, and was impossible to fill without losing loads of lovely booze! I ended up siphoning anyway.. :thumb:

Went to local home supply shop but they didn't have what I ws looking for so ordered a little bottler online which should hopefully arrive tomorrow.

I installed mine the same way as Pittsy. Just use a flat wood bit (I think it was a 20mm one). The tap should screw straight in to the hole with no leaks :-) Then just add the nut on the inside and hey presto
