    The 'Hop Water' Thread

I thought I'd give this another go as my previous attempt ended in total failure and I had to ditch the 5L down the sink.. This time after more research, I come up with the following which turned out nice and quite drinkable.. Aroma wise it reminds me of sprite.. Only negative on this batch is...

    Just stop oil

A simple per-mile tax (based on the car you drive) and get rid of other road/fuel tax. That could easily be extended to include self-driving/robotaxi's as well and you pay a per-mile tax on top of your fare.

Yeah i was more thinking about our culture of car ownership because of the shortfall of public transport in many areas - rather than whatever technology wins through. the self-driving taxi is the only thing i can see that has the potential to solve the issues of public transport i.e. when we...

    Just stop oil

Motoring has got too cheap, convenient, and in many parts of the uk essential to move around. Outside of the major cities and tourist areas, public transport is never going to get to the levels where people are going to start getting rid of their car in droves. Hence why I believe the "robotaxi"...

    Brewuk website "down for maintenance"

Yeah defo worth an ask.. I recall that Beer52 took over the credit that some customers had built up from HonestBrew

Would absolutely love to see a proper public transport system here in Milton Keynes, but I can't see it happening in the city built for the car with everything so spread out and good trunk roads between each estate. Bus journeys at the moment often require a change to get anywhere that isn't...

    Just stop oil

yup this is exactly what I think will happen and thought this for a long while.. car ownership will drop hugely as "robotaxi's" flood the country when we have the infrastructure to support level 5 self-driving cars. not sure it'll be in my lifetime though, and as often seen, it may will be the...

    Spotless water

I just target style profiles with what i'm brewing - although I don't fret too much with the specific numbers of each salt.. as long as its in the right direction i.e. sulfate/chloride balance and has enough calcium in the mash then all good.. Spotless is great for mixing up chemsan/starsan as...

    Just stop oil

No of course i dont! but you'll get a lot more support from the public, maybe even some of the media when you go about it in the right way, rather than the current approach of the JSO, which is what this thread started upon i.e. has JSO failed. When you start to cost people time, cost people...

    Just stop oil

If JSO's mandate is truly about fighting for change and not just to incite civil disobedience then do it properly. Get yourself elected, get into parliament, and argue the cause in the house like a modern democracy. Hell, it worked for Farage.

    Quick sparge / Low OG

How did you take the measurement, hydrometer/refractometer? was it calibrated ok, sample reading taken at room temperature (or adjusted for temp) etc.

    Just stop oil

Yup couldn't agree more.. the absolutely tragedy of this is all the public money we have spent dealing with this cult of people hell bent on just causing chaos, even committing crimes whilst claiming its all in the name of climate change. When you start to cost people time, money and even their...

    BrewCon 2023 Comp

Without doubt, with Ken heading up the judging this will be a totally different beast this year I'm sure of that. But, as others have said, we are blessed with a number of other competitions at the same time so will happily let this one slide by because of the poor handling of it last year...

    Jeez scary or what

I got taken out by a bike once in london because they were going the wrong way down a road. I stepped out from a central refuge because i could see that no vehicles or any sort were coming down the dual road to my left, only to have a biker smack into my from the right because they decided to go...

    Scottish National Homebrew Competition

Wow, something very unexpected just happened to appear in my inbox this morning... Following on from the debacle of royal mail taking 22 days to deliver my entry, which I assume somewhat surprised the organiser when the beers landed on their doorstep long after the competition deadline. I had...

    Chiller exit temperature

I just recently drilled into the side of my fridge to install taps.. was proper bricking it!!.. couldn't get a definitive answer on the webs about coils in the side of fridges so I just used a very small drill bit at first and drilled very, very slowly until i just pierced the skin, then...

    2 Roller Malt Mill

I bought a simple 2 roller mill a few years ago, fairly simple affair with an adjustable crush size. Defo worth the investment. I can buy in bulk (thus saving bagging fees for small amounts, and save future delivery fees by having the stock on hand) and use as needed over the months ahead. I can...

LALBREW NEW ENGLAND v VERDANT IPA

They do recommend a higher pitching rate with New England over verdant. They say you need to pitch between 1g/L and 2g/L of NE (verdant is half that). I have done a ~20L batch with a single packet of NE, but it did, unsurprisingly, have a long 36hr odd lag time.

    Brewuk website "down for maintenance"

looking through my email receipts from late March -> Jun 2020, I placed online orders with THBC, MM, GEB, Angel, even Brouwland and I don't recall any issues or significant delays receiving the orders considering the conditions/restrictions the retailers were working under.
