    Nicks90's Brewdays

This sounds similar to the overnight mashes I have taken to doing recently. I start the mash at perhaps a degree or two above the intended mash temperature, wrap the mash tun in towels and a sleeping bag and then put it to bed for the night. In the morning it has lost around 10-15 degrees and is...

    When to cold crash

Personally I use gelatine for fining when needed and I add it to the cold wort in the fermenter a couple of days before bottling or kegging

    When to cold crash

If you cold crash in the fermenter prior to bottling there will still be plenty of yeast for secondary fermentation in the bottles so no need to worry. The only time I do anything different is with lagers when they have an extended cold period prior to bottling and I add a small amount of...

What are you drinking tonight 2021?

First couple of pints of my Hop Harvest pale, kegged yesterday this is spot on already and very chilled out in the shed. I love this hobby athumb.. Only issues being getting a shoe full of snow on the way to the shed and then finding the lock frozen solid aheadbutt

    Hop Dates

Yes if they are still sealed they should still be fresh and fine to use. I often find that the hops available are from the previous-previous year's harvest.

    Adding Gelatine Any Suggestions

I fine with gelatine in the fermenter. After 24-48hrs you can then just siphon the beer off the top through direct transfer as you describe. Get the fermented wort nice and cold then gently stir in your gelatine solution - I find 1/2 tsp to 150ml boiled water cooled to around 65-70 degrees works...

    What did you brew today?

Kegged my Hop Harvest pale ale this morning, first time doing a direct oxygen-free transfer and it was so straightforward. I know it's been said many times before but I should have gone to kegs ages ago. 1.046 to 1.008 for a 5% abv and the sample is very promising. I will give this 24hrs @ 30psi...

Abv higher than it should be

It is a bit difficult to see where the reading is on the picture with water only but it looks like your hydrometer could be a few points out.

What are you drinking tonight 2021?

Returned from a 30 mile ride this morning and my partner said she would like us to go for a walk this afternoon... So after an 8.5 mile walk as well I think I deserve a pint of Rabbit Island pale. 3 weeks in the keg and this is starting to condition nicely.
