What are you drinking tonight 2022?

Not what I was expecting when I opened it to be honest 😂

What are you drinking tonight 2022?

A bitter from Elusive, tastes good but does it really need to be that fizzy? No!

    What did you brew today?

Pretty much, I kept the grain bill down to 6.2kg so only ended up with 17l in the fermenter rather than a full size batch. Good thing with this recipe is it has a load of sugar rather than just grain for the ABV. I think you could fit a little bit more grain, maybe 6.5kg. Mash efficiency was...

What are you drinking tonight 2022?

Now you mention it surprised it’s not under some kind of export ban

    What did you brew today?

OG of 1.075, had to add some sugar for an extra 4 points (was 1.071 at end of boil, I think I over estimated the boil-off volume) to help it get it to the target 8.3%. My big hydrometer only goes up to 1.060 so back to the starter kit hydrometer, very difficult to read on this one but checked...

Having a go at a Pliny the Elder clone (West Coast DDH Double IPA). Just finished mash 75 minutes at 66c.

Tribute style ale anybody done one ?

Best you can do for water is refer to the Daylight Robbery recipe which does have the water additions. If you didn’t know, Daylight Robbery was the original Tribute, although it’s changed over the years. There’s a link to the thread here somewhere, it was posted again just the other day...

Tribute style ale anybody done one ?

    Proper Job

Soft well water but with additions. Not sure exact amounts but probably a standard ale profile so add gypsum and magnesium etc. I’m down to the last few pints of my Tribute clone from PJ yeast, was fantastic.

    Malt Miller Hop Packaging

I went to use a new pack of Celeia today that I got from Malt Miller and noticed it’s not vacuum packed and doesn’t have the AA%. I scanned the QR code and it came up with a webpage giving no information at all. Not very good.

CBC/Meantime/The Malt Miller British IPA Competition

I got one too, wasn’t impressed with the beer but I’m just not into hoppy beers right now. I didn’t find it tasted very nice, didn’t finish it. Probably won’t enter the comp but I do like the mug!

    Using dextrose in beer recipe

Thanks, one day I will get to my local Wilko to have a look and see what they have on the shelves

Does this water additions level look ok?

I think you have it right to be honest. I’m no expert in water treatment but your achieved water profile with the additions should suit an imperial stout better than your soft source water.

    Using dextrose in beer recipe

Interesting! So table sugar is more expensive vs corn sugar in the US? I notice that in the graham wheeler real ale book the recipes have white sugar, not dextrose. But the US recipes always have dextrose. Your mention of production cost makes sense now, they are just using what’s cheapest or...

Does this water additions level look ok?

Shame I can’t just send you 30l of my tap water. But your target profile looks ok for a stout, you won’t taste the baking soda. Interesting that it does add quite a bit of salt though which you might not want.

Does this water additions level look ok?

Looks like you have exactly the same tap water as me if yours is the one with 265 HCO3. If you’re aiming for that then it’s odd because I always just use CRS to remove the temporary hardness and it works fine for me. It bumps up chloride and sulphate and reduces the carbonate.

Brewfather IBU anomaly Gamma Ray Clone

I’ve got a recipe here that calls for a 0 minute hop addition. It gives me 0 IBU in Brewfather. But what does a 0 minute addition mean, how long do the hops need to be left there? Isn’t it like a whirlpool addition so will give IBU too?

    Using dextrose in beer recipe

Thanks, any noticeable difference between dextrose and table sugar? A kilo of table sugar is 69p but a kilo of dextrose is about £3 so I’d rather use table sugar tbh
