I had a delivery from MM today, which arrived safely via DHL (although not at the notified time). I had ordered some hops and was surprised to find that the AA was not marked on the packets. It was necessary to scan a QR code on the reverse of the packet to check the AA and even this did not work every time.

This is a real PITA and I hope it is the result of an oversight and not a permanent feature.

I really like the idea of using QR codes for info, but the AA should be on there so you can see at a glance.

Their recent YouTube video discussed changes to packaging and the QR code providing a list of info , which I forget
The QR code does not provide any more information that that which is normally printed on the packet. If this is a deliberate policy it is hard to see the reasoning behind it.

It does seem a bit odd. They certainly used to put them on the packets, I used a packet of EKG from them in a brew yesterday.

And you definately need to know the AA, I've had different batches of the same hops with almost double the AA, if you don't know the AA when bittering you're shooting in the dark.

I went to use a new pack of Celeia today that I got from Malt Miller and noticed it’s not vacuum packed and doesn’t have the AA%. I scanned the QR code and it came up with a webpage giving no information at all. Not very good.

I had the same result with a packet of Celeia - the other varieties I bought (Hersbrucker and Mittelfruh) did produce the information when scanned.

Seems a lot of messing about when you want to get a brew on, hope this is not the thin end of the wedge .Looking for things like sell by date and the like should be listed in my opinion

The use by date on MM hop packets is five years hence: I would be reluctant to use hops that old!

It does state the alpha on the web site Homebrew Hops

Not much use if, like me, you buy in batches and don't use some of the hops for a while. I guess they update the website with each batch, so if you have an older batch and didn't write down the AA at the time then the info is lost? I buy hops from them regularly and the AA value changes regularly for each hop.

Sometimes technology can be a step too far, by all means use both but a lot of brewers store their hops in a freezer/fridge and need to be able to see what they have spec wise when looking in the Fridge/freezer without QR coding every pack?

I’m being asked a lot recently to produce QR codes. They are useful, but in the right circumstances. I’ve had to explain this to clients that want it on their web sites on a fair few occasions.
Seems to come in waves, I recon they all go to the same barbers and read the same magazine.
