    Beer infection - kit ruined?

Use bleach. Kills just about everything . Just make sure that afterwards it's thoroughly rinsed, at least 3 or 4 times.

Does elderflower champagne always have to be bottled so early?!

To be fair beer used to be bottled like this too. Better to let it ferment out fully and prime with a known amount of sugar.

    Gravity readings

I sanitise my hydrometer and just drop it in the fv. Once before adding the yeast and once when it looks finished. You're risking adding an infection, but if you're dipping in your sample tube you're doing the same. Harder to read the hydrometer accurately though especially with old eyes. Just...

    Waste water

I use soda crystals for cleaning beer bottles. Works a treat. Also for cleaning out my boiler - apparently it's good for stainless steel. Said so on the internet so it must be true.

    Poorly printer

I think we paid about £200 for our laser printer. We got so sick of cheap printers that barely outlasted the toner they came with that we got a Xerox one. Had it for years now and it's been no trouble at all

    New brewer conversions

There's a simple calculation. OG - FG ( ignore the decimal points) and multiply by 0.131 I got sick of doing this every time so made a chart of the results so I can just look it up now.

    Ignore, can't delete

I have been following this thread since the OP. Fascinating stuff. Have we decided yet whether to ignore it for just 30 minutes or are we going for the full hour of ignorance?

    Sterilising spoons

Or just rince your spoon with a bit of boiling water.

What are you drinking tonight 2023.

Just as likely to get a pint of one beer in a glas with some other brewery's name on it.

    Small Beer

I did the Greg Hughes recipe for southern brown - basically a Mann's brown ale clone- a couple of months ago. Messed up my volumes so I got about 22 L instead of the 18 I was aiming for. Came out at 2.8% and was surprisingly good, pretty spot on for Mann's actually. I'll be doing it again soon...

Is there any point using honey in this recipe?

I quite like honey ales, but with that quantity of ginger in it it'll be pointless. Just bung in white sugar.

What are you drinking tonight 2023.

First lot of hops have gone in my prima Donna pale ale, having this while I wait for the second lot to go in.

What are you drinking tonight 2023.

Done a good morning's work, mowing the orchard, watering newly planted trees, oiling my beer crates hoping that'll keep down the mould they keep attracting. Time for a pint of last year's hazy cider. Surprisingly drinkable considering it's 60 - 70% cookers

Any idea what's wrong with my hop plant?

The last few years mine have gone like that on the first bines up but then they've produced spurs with the hops on. Middle of may seems a bit early though.

    Car engine question..

Jubilee clip. They come in a big range of sizes. Our agricultural supplies place sell them or I suppose eBay.

Turbo Cider - Forgot the tea....

I don't bother with tea in turbo cider. I just ferment the juice which is what you do with real cider. I've tried it of course but couldn't detect any benefit. So I wouldn't worry if I were you

    Gauntlets

I don't use anything either. It can be a bit hot when I'm squeezing the Biab bag but repeating the word **** several times helps a lot.

What are you drinking tonight 2023.

Lot of pubs round here have it on cask. I always give it a wide berth as the last time I had it I had horrendous cholic half way through . I'm suspecting they only do a 30 minute boil...

What are you drinking tonight 2023.

Waiting for the wort to get up to the boil. Amber cascade to keep me going.

    Four Priests Brewery YouTube channel

I thought it was an interesting video. Just looking at your electrics makes me glad I didn't take the plunge and start a microbrewery when my family suggested it...
