Kettle sour - pH not changing

Thank you both. I put two pots of these in: Waitrose & Partners I gather live 0% fat is the way to go. Good shout on the probiotic - I might just do that next time 👍

ELI5 - Keg set up for bottling only

I've used the kegland bottle gun linked above with good results, ensuring the pressure is low (2psi IIRC) and cold bottles. I also have a nuktap counter pressure filler which I have heard great things about, but not had a chance to use yet (I thing it can be used even if you don'thave a nukatap).

Kettle sour - pH not changing

Hi everyone, I am brewing Greg Hughes peach and green tea kettle sour, and have added lactic acid and yoghurt and left for 24 hours, but the pH hasn't changed since I measured after adding the acid (4.7). Is it just a case that yogurt takes longer to sour, or is there anything I can do to get it...

    Peach and Green Tea sour

I'm going to brew Greg Hughes' peach and green tea keytle sour, and was wondering how best to add the peach puree and green tea. The recipe says after fermentation, so could either: add it to to the keg then rack on to it, or add to the fermenter and leave a few days befor kegging. Either way...

Have a go at simple AG

This thread got me started with AG, and I now have about 15 AG brews under my belt, now using an All in One. What I have come to learn recently via the UK National comp feedback and my latest brew, is that just as much care is needed at the fermentation stage as anywhere else in the brewday. It...

    bad batch of beer

To be honest if you don't want to go to the effort of cleaning/sanitising bottles then I would suggest homebrewing isn't the hobby for you. As has been said, not worth the effort/money on the ingredients and brewing if you are happy to risk an entire batch for the sake of not sanotising your...

    National Homebrew Competition

This was my first ever competition other than a club comp, and I must say, £8 is a bargain for the invaluable feedback I have received. Pretty happy with 29 too, and there's plenty of room for improvement! Judges comments were consistent also which shows how well skilled they are!

Are they? 👀 I quite enjoy looking at mine.

Q for the no chill brewers

I do use a cube, as my fermenter has a decent amount of headspace. I squeeze the small amount of remaining air as best I can before sealing and leaving to cool.

    Nukatap dripping/leaking

As an fyi, springs are an option rather than requirement. There shouldn't be any leaks from the tap whether you have a spring or not. I had the same issue where the tap leaked from the collar that joined it to the shank. Still not 100%sure how I fixed it. Another one leake from the tap istelf as...

    National Homebrew Competition

Mine arrived yesterday, and there are many still yet to arrive in my category, so hoping it stays that way!

    Beer styles and pressure fermenting

I must admit, I did it in my normal plastic bucker fermenter as I had a lager in the allrounder at the time I brewed the saison, so unfortunately I didn't learn anything that'll be of use to you I'm afraid :(

    National Homebrew Competition

When I went to the post office, the asked if I'd write "From: <house number>, <postcode>" on a small sticker and stick it on, which I did, but yeah, it's easy to see why it might end up with the sender's address looking at the printed labels!

    Rescuing a Kettle Sour?

@ppsmith - I know the thread is a couple of years old. I am thinking about using Fage yogurt - how much is required for kettle souring? Will a 150g pot be sufficient in your experience?

    National Homebrew Competition

A lot depends if it's pet or glass bottles to be honest. I have sent pet wrapped in plastic bag and taped up. Got sent away from one post office as they said all liquids need to be wrapped in bubble wrap, which is just not true. The next one I tried had no issue. I know the organisers have put...

    National Homebrew Competition

I'd send it, as entries can't be changed and have already been paid for. You'll at least get some feedback, and maybe some that doesn't relate to the two issues mentioned that you're already aware of.

    Handpump Beer Engine advice

I have a couple of Amgram 1/4 pint beer engines, one of which I have got working well off keg. Not sure about bags though as I haven't tried. Got mine from a hotel that gave up serving cask, bought via FB marketplace.

    Curry...!!

Latifs Inspired is a great channel, along with Misty Ricardos. I hate it when a keg kicks mid-curry 😭

    National Homebrew Competition

I think this is spot on. This is the first competition I have ever entered and I went for the "put a specific brew on for it" approach. I won't do that again.
