Starting back with AG basics (for a while at least)

I honestly think my subscription to Brewfather was best money I spent when I started brewing all grain, in helping me understand and plan my recipes. I considered an AIO but did what you did and bought kegs etc first. I BIAB in a pan and have to manually check temperatures and do the timings...

What are you drinking tonight 2023.

Pilsener bittered with Northern Brewer, late addition and hopstand with Saaz. Cold fermented with Novalger, this has had a month or so lagering and very drinkable.

    What's for breakfast?

Weekends leisurely boiled Eggs and soldiers, lots of salt, fresh coffee. Rest of the week quick slice of toast, half Marmite, half marmalade at silly o clock. Flask of tea to go.

    Hand Crafted American IPA

You did the right thing leaving in FV for a fortnight, fermentation may be done in 6 days but the yeast needs time to clean up after itself. Dry hop was probably too early though, I usually leave it till around day 11 for 3 days before cold crashing for another couple of days.

    AG/PG advice needed

That bag will be fine, I use a similar one on an 8 gallon pan. You just put the bag in pan and tighten the cord round the rim, then lift out after the mash.

    AG/PG advice needed

This will do you https://www.themaltmiller.co.uk/product/grain-bag-with-tie-cord/?v=79cba1185463 The amount of grain you use is dependable on what style and strength beer you are making. As suggested earlier, making your own recipes on Brewfather or similar is a good way to get your head...

This will seem a strange topic but I think it's relevant here

I've also seen it suggested baking dog biscuits with spent grain but never got round to it myself - might try it for some Christmas treats for the hounds

    Good deal on Klarstein 65l?

This happened to me a year or so ago, waited for order for about a month with no sign of delivery so cancelled in the end - still brewing with my trusty pan.

Fishing with my dad were some of the happiest days of my life, pike with deadbaits at this time of year.

SS Conical Fermenter or my Classic Plastic Bucket

I'm tempted by the lure of a shiny stainless steel fermenter but have stuck with buckets up till now as I can get two in my fridge. Are SS conicals much taller than a standard bucket ?

    Show us your dog

The pup's not so small any more, looks like she'll be a bit of a lump. Fantastic temperament, calm and affectionate but she has her mad moments !

Newbie - Just purchased a pressure fermenter.

Funnily enough I have been working on the restoration of his childhood home next to Blenheim palace recently. Good luck with the lager !

Newbie - Just purchased a pressure fermenter.

Welcome to the forum. If you want to ferment at ale temperatures in a cold shed you'll need an insulated box and a heat mat or belt at the least, better with a brewfridge and an Inkbird. Or make some lagers and ferment cold.

What are you drinking tonight 2023.

Taste of this Pilsener I brewed using Novalager for the first time fermented at 14c, kegged two weeks ago after a month in primary. Bittered with Northern brewer, late boil and flameout additions with Saaz. Thought I'd give this yeast a try but next time I'll go back to their Diamond yeast. Got...

    Does it get expensive?

I started all grain with a second hand 8 gallon pan which cost £60 with a couple of grain bags and a chiller. Already had a fridge which was £30 plus inkbird for the same and brew on an old gas stove. I am looking to move up to a nice shiny stainless steel fermenter though, but I like buckets as...

    Brewing Apps

I'm a bit of a caveman when it comes to tech and software but I've found Brewfather very user friendly, it helped my understanding of the whole process when I began all grain brewing ( even though my process is about as basic as you can get ). I do keep written notes as I brew but it's good to...

American amber ale I kegged a week ago, bittered with Northern Brewer. Late addition, hopstand and dry hop with Cascade.

    “Lively” Coopers Brew

It'd be a good idea to get yourself a hydrometer for a few quid, then you can check the gravity at start and finish and know whether it's done.
