    Nottingham Hop Idol 2023

I signed up for this in Feb then completely forgot about it until I'd just started brewing another beer and saw a reminder on line 😂. Quickly got the supplies to make the Rye IPA I made fairly recently and then brewed over the first bank holiday weekend. Just bottled the brew....tasting great so...

What are you drinking tonight 2023.

Progress check...my Belgium dubble recently bottled. Coming along nicely. Need to leave this alone to mature a bit, but not bad 👍

    Notts beers days

Bottles my Dubble at the weekend. Had a taste and was initially a bit disappointed as it had a sweetness I wasn't expecting. I had a further taste after bottling and that had gone, so putting it down to maybe getting a bit (a lot!!) Of yeast in the first taste. Am hoping this comes good after...

What are you drinking tonight 2023.

I was in Keswick recently and picked this up from the Keswick Brewing Company. It's nice but not as malty as expected, esp as it noted having 5 malts in it.

What are you drinking tonight 2023.

Cracked open a Maximator tonight. Was a random selection at a bottle shop....and what a great choice it was. A lovely dopplebock 👍.

Have a go at simple AG

As @Rwilts notes, mine also never gets to the FG. They collect gunk and slowly lose their calibration. I love it for the reassurance fermentation is going well, and for knowing when things have stopped. Mine is generally 5pts high at the end. Enjoy👍

I'll let you know if this is worth making 👍

    Notts beers days

Since brewing my Rye IPA, I have made a disappointing milk stout (though I do need to try another bottle of that to see if it has improved!), a Bitter hoppped solely with Goldings (this was Ok but not something I'd make again....bit of a user-upper) and a promising Imperial Stout. The recipe for...

    Notts beers days

Oh, how time flies. Just realised I have made a few brews but not updated my brewday thread. Today - Brew #27 - Trappist V3. This is labelled as a Belgium Dubble as I'm aiming to enter this into the "Brew Like a Monk" comp. 12.5L BIAB no sparge: 3.2kg M.O. 0.625kg Pilsner Malt 0.250 kg...

Efficiency query - not hitting target

This is just an update to my initial issue. I brewed a Belgian Dubble today and hit my numbers nicely. It seems that my issue was simply not having the correct profile settings on the brewfather app. Having set that correct for a BIAB no sparge (efficiency automatically set to 69%), I was just...

What are you drinking tonight 2023.

Thanks for that. If I stumble across another I'll give it time to mature👍

What are you drinking tonight 2023.

It was the 30/1/23. I realised afterwards that I also added the yeast by accident, so that may have affected the taste. 🤔

What are you drinking tonight 2023.

I think this is my first ever bottle of Orval!! Bit of research for the Brew like a Monk comp😂. It's easy to drink, but slightly disappointed. I was expecting more from this. On the plus side - I've found an excellent bottle shop on the Wirral (Prost Bottle Shop for anyone local.... excellent...

March Brew and Swap and beyond.

Bottled my Imp Stout today. Quite a nice brew at this stage. I had a few issues on the brew day, but it's ended up around 9.6,%. Have to hide it away now to mature. 🍻

March Brew and Swap and beyond.

I'm curious what gravity yours finished at. Mine is down around 1.020 - that's the ispindle reading which is usually 4-5 points higher than the actual reading. It has been quiet, but occasionally drops a point. It was 3 days at 1.021 then dropped. I'm fairly confident it has finished fermenting...

    is my homebrew ok????

Hi, from experience, I used to find that beer made from kits always took 4-6 weeks after bottling to get to a good point. Timings on their instructions can sometimes be a bit optimistic! Sounds like you had reached FG so time will be your friend. If you have a barrel with the tap towards the...

Efficiency query - not hitting target

Yes, I have used a different grain for the last few brews. I did read someone else having a change in efficiency with a different sack. Maybe a factor as well, but I'm also wondering if I have uneven mixing in my grain barrel. Will try and mix it a bit for the next brew. 👍

Efficiency query - not hitting target

Hi, thanks for your reply. I ended up with less wort, tho that was down to boiling more vigorously than normal to get the gravity up. I think I had the expected vol after the mash (around 16.5l). I have 10l in the FV than the expected 12l. Cheers.

Efficiency query - not hitting target

Yes, I agree. I didn't phrase my initial message very well, but it was more on suggestions on where I went wrong today as my efficiency took a nose dive compared to previous brews!! Think it's down to the grain bill, my method and an incorrect profile setting - tho mainly the first two!! I'm...

Efficiency query - not hitting target

Hi Pennine....for a moment I had an Eureka moment, but having thought about it I'm not sure🤔. So your comment about adding more water made me think if I'd misread the volume needed from my app. I had taken the vol + mash vol as total water - 21l for this brew. Under that on the app is total mash...
